5 Illegal Things You’re Still Doing in Disney World (And Everyone Hopes You’ll Stop)

Some Disney guests are STILL breaking the rules and engaging in these “illegal” behaviors that can potentially ruin the vacation of those around them.

Magic Kingdom

Look, we get it. For the vast, vast majority of Disney World visitors, a trip to the “Most Magical Place on Earth” is a rare occurrence, and a time to cut loose from everyday life. However, there are certain Disney guests who take this ethos a bit too far, and continue to break some basic rules that damage not only their own trip, but those around them as well.

No Smoking

Walt Disney World’s smoking policies are pretty clear: Each of the resort’s four theme parks are smoke-free, period. Each provides a designated smoking area outside their main entrance (with EPCOT having a second near the International Gateway), but within their gates, there is no smoking (or vaping) is allowed. However, that doesn’t stop some guests from continuing to try at various areas, sometimes even ON RIDES.

Don’t Feed the Animals

While it can be easy to become immersed in the magic and think everything on Disney property is part of the show, the reality is that any animal – including birds, squirrels, cats, raccoons, etc. – on property are real, and shouldn’t be fed under any circumstances. Yes, that includes any ducks you see around the castle.

Don’t Leave Kids Unattended

Kids love Disney World, and it can be tempting to let them run free. But, please don’t. Not in queue lines where they can easily get lost to climb places they shouldn’t, not in restaurants where they can end up underneath fellow guests’ tables, and not in the middle of large crowds. It’s not safe for them, it’s not safe for the guests, and it’s simply not a good idea.

Don’t Jump Lines

This one should be common sense, but please don’t cut in line. It’s blatantly obvious what you’re doing, and insulting to other guests. Also, while we’re at it, unless it’s an emergency, don’t split up your party and then try and catch up with them later in the queue.

Check Out is 11:00 AM

Speaking of leaving in the morning, keep in mind that Disney has a STRICT checkout time of 11:00 AM. So whether you’re planning on grabbing breakfast or simply packing up, keep an eye on the clock as housekeeping will arrive promptly once checkout time hits.

  1. I was there for Father’s Day weekend. I witnessed all 5 rules broken. We checked out at 10:45. Went back at 12:30 to double check we did not leave anything. Going back in 2 weeks then back in another week.

  2. Unfortunately, those who relied on DAS to queue one time are now being told to split their party and catch up when the party gets close. It is difficult when your DAS individual is a rule follower. Hoping for a better solution in the future.

  3. My wife and I watched a woman fire up a cigarette next to the star bucks at Studios.

She had a kid with her.

She lit her dart and just started walking away.

We assumed “maybe she’s from another country and just doesn’t get it.”

But these days? People just try to get away with everything they can.

  4. Housekeeping starts knocking on doors way earlier than 11:00. Last time I stayed at a resort by 8:30 they where knocking on the door asking when we were leaving. Not fun at all. While I understand they need the room for the next family by certain time, I also want time to do my stuff in peace and quiet.

    1. That’s because a housekeeper has anywhere from 9 to 15 rooms to clean in a day and they start at 8 and leave at 430 not all 15 are departures but even if 3 or 4 of them are each one takes about 45 minutes to clean it’s not that they want it for the next family it’s just because they only have so much time to clean all of the rooms they’re assigned.

  5. The sad part?
I’ve seen some parents, break every single one of those rules.
Right in front of their kids.

  6. I for one will continue to use my little tiny e-cig that emits zero smoke and if it does emit any vapor it is so minimal it disappears immediately, has no smell and is bothering nobody. I’m not ok with the people that have to use vapes that make more smoke than an fog machine and I actually blame those people for the smoking sections being removed. However, if I stand in a corner, by myself, with nobody around and take a few drags of an e-cig that isn’t bothering anyone and saves me an absurd walk to the supposed smoking section. Additionally.. I’m pretty much ok in any park except Magic Kingdom where the actual smoking section is on the other side of security and quite a hike from the entrance. I will continue to petition Disney to add smoking sections back in the parks. 2 per park and one outside the entrance is acceptable but what they are doing now is just discrimination. People smoke, and people from other countries smoke in greater numbers than those here in the US. Everyone has a right to enjoy their day and smoking outdoors, especially in designated areas isn’t bothering anyone. If they claim it is they are full of it. I’ll support the smoking ban when they remove all the booze from the parks.. I hate the smell of it and I can’t stand drunks. They are far more detrimental to everyone else than a smoker could ever be. But that makes them money, so it will never happen.

  7. I saw what appeared to be a line cutter to some, however they had been in line and had to go to the restroom. Some times in those long lines, you just got to go. They were just coming back. Newbies to the line, don’t be so quick to judge. Maybe Disney could provide “line holders” for this dilemma. I’m real sure it happens to many.
