NEWS: CLOSING Timeline Revealed for Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Disney World Ahead of Muppets Courtyard Demolition

We’ve known since the end of 2024 that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in Disney’s Hollywood Studios is getting rethemed, but we didn’t totally know when that transformation would take place.

Instead of a Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, the rethemed coaster will feature Muppets, including Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. After MONTHS of speculation, we know officially when this new coaster will open in the park!

Disney has just announced that the current version of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster we know and love will REMAIN OPEN through 2025, and Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets will land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2026!

That means we expect to see the rethemed coaster OPEN in 2026, so we won’t have that long to wait to experience the “new” ride for ourselves! We love that the announcement was made by Kermit himself, and we’re hoping that means we’ll also see him in the new coaster. (It’s not the Muppets without Kermit!)

So far, we know that the Muppets will be taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, “teaming up with some of music’s biggest stars for a rockin’ music festival,” though further details on the transformation are limited.

Disney previously stated, “We know so many of you share our love for The Muppets and know their energy will be a perfect fit for this coaster. Plus, as the first Disney ride ever to feature The Muppets, there’s sure to be laughter, screams and new tunes for this attraction for fans to enjoy throughout the adventure and plenty of Muppets-themed merchandise on Sunset Boulevard!”

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster

This news means that for at least a portion of 2026, a BIG thrill ride will be closed in this park, so we’ll expect to see wait times increase for the other rides in the park. While there are two new shows (a Villains show and a Little Mermaid show) to experience to “make up” for the loss of Muppet*Vision 3D, in a way, we’re still expecting to see crowd patterns change.

This also means we might not have ANY Muppet representation in the park until 2026, which makes us sad! As a reminder, Muppets Courtyard is permanently closed as of June 8th, 2025. We’re looking forward to the new Monsters, INC. land that is replacing Muppets Courtyard AND are thrilled we’re not losing the Muppets in the park for good, but we are sad we won’t be able to see some of our most hilarious friends for quite some time.
