We’re Getting STRESSED About Disney World’s New Suspended Coaster Ride

2024 has been a year filled with tons of Disney news!

D23

Some of the most significant announcements came out of D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, which took place over the summer. There are so many new lands, attractions, and cruise ships on the horizon for the Walt Disney Company. Each of the four Disney World theme parks is getting something new, and some of these new and exciting projects will open or debut in 2025! Arguably, one of the most exciting announcements was confirmation about a highly rumored attraction, but we are a little worried that it won’t live up to the hype.

Two new stage shows are set to open in Hollywood Studios next year, but that is not all that is coming to the park!

At D23, it was announced that a brand new Monsters, Inc. Land would be coming to Hollywood Studios. In recent years, Hollywood Studios has gotten a lot of new additions like Toy Story Land, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway.

Disney fans have been speculating for quite some time that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith would be re-themed into a Monsters, Inc. door coaster attraction. Well, good news! The ride is confirmed, and it will not take over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster!

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is safe!

The Monsters, Inc. door coaster attraction will be Disney World’s first suspended coaster. You’ll go into the factory and experience the first suspended coaster ever in a Disney park. When Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro announced the ride, he said, “Remember in the movie how those claws grab the doors and hoist them up into the air to take them away? We’re doing that, too. And you’re going along for the ride.”

A new land themed to Pixar Animation Studios’ “Monsters, Inc.” is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Taking place after the events of the film, Monstropolis need humans’ laughter to power the city. Guests can even ride on a door like Mike and Sully in the iconic scene from the film with Disney’s first-ever suspended coaster.

We got a few pieces of concept art for both the land and the ride, but we are concerned about it for two reasons. The location of this new land in Hollywood Studios has still not been revealed. Fans were upset to find out that Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America would be closing to make way for the Cars expansion in Frontierland. And now fans are worried about the fate of the Muppets Courtyard, as the new Monsters, Inc. Land, including the door coaster, has the potential to take over.

No location has been confirmed, but another rumored location is the Animation Courtyard. We hope Disney hears fans’ pleas and keeps Muppets Courtyard intact.

The second reason we are worried about this attraction is that it has the potential to follow an unpopular Disney ride trend. Lately, when Disney opens a new attraction, it relies heavily on screens. People miss the days of practical effects and animatronics. While Disney usually mixes all the elements from the concept art, it seems like the new door coaster will rely on screens. It seems unlikely that the doors on the back of the wall will be a physical set.

For example, in Disney California Adventure, Monsters, Inc. Mike and Sulley to the Rescue use screens for the doors and mirrors to help make it seem like there are more physical doors.

Now, this is not confirmed, and concept art can change, but it is just a hunch we have. We have our fingers crossed that the door coaster does not replace a beloved area of Hollywood Studios and that the ride uses fewer screens than recent attractions.

We will keep an eye out for any new information regarding the door coaster and the Monsters, Inc. Land as a whole, so make sure to continue to follow along with AllEars.
