6 Important Ride Rules in Disney World

You’re probably well aware that there are certain rules you have to follow on Disney World rides — height requirements, stay seated, no flash photography, and the list goes on.

But, did you know that there are certain ride-specific rules that don’t apply anywhere else? We’re bringing you six important ride rules you need to know before your next Disney World trip!

Actual Disney World Ride Rules

You Can’t Take Selfies in Space

For many folks, taking a selfie on a ride can be a great way to commemorate the trip without shelling out for PhotoPass. In late 2022, Disney started warning people that cell phones and other loose articles were no longer permitted on Space Mountain, and that they needed to be stored in the pouch on the ride.

That means that you won’t be able to take photos or videos while you’re riding Space Mountain. It’s likely these signs are reminders to keep small items secure that could easily fly out of your hands while riding the attraction.

No Loose Articles Permitted in the Grid

When Disney World opened TRON, they made history — and not because the ride was super innovative and new (though it is!). Instead, it was because TRON became the first Disney World roller coaster to utilize a locker system to store guest belongings while on the ride.

These are totally FREE, so there’s no need to pay anything to access them. The complimentary lockers will “pair directly with your MagicBand, MagicBand+ or ticket media so you can easily lock and reopen your locker with a quick tap.”

Please Keep Your Shoes on at All Times

Shirts and shoes are required on all Disney World rides — even the ones you might get wet on! This is especially true at Kali River Rapids in Animal Kingdom. Depending on where you’re sitting, you may end up soaking wet by the time the ride is through.

But, if you’re thinking you’ll take your shoes off to avoid getting them (and your socks) sopping wet — you’re out of luck. We recommend bringing a pair of flip flops in your bag to throw on before getting on these rafts!

Unspoken Disney World Ride Rules

Do NOT Feed the Yeti

Some Disney World rides have “unspoken” rules — ones that Disney may not have come outright and made official, but rules it’s probably a good practice to follow anyway. On Expedition Everest in Animal Kingdom, people have made a habit of tossing hair ties onto one scene of the ride.

Ultimately, though, Cast Members we’ve spoken to don’t love this “tradition” and would rather you keep your hair ties where they belong!

Be Careful With Your Hair

Speaking of hair, you may want to be a little bit more careful with it on certain rides. If you’re going extremely fast like on Test Track, Rock n Roller Coaster, or TRON, it’s not a bad idea to pull your hair back into some sort of updo.

This way, you won’t have it potentially whipping all around, leaving you with quite a hairdo once you’re done. Not only that, but it can prevent your ride neighbors from maybe suffering the same fate.

Don’t Lean Forward on Mission: Space

Mission: Space is known for being one of the most vomit-inducing rides in all of Disney World, but even for folks with iron stomachs this one can still be pretty disorienting. Luckily, we’ve been around the block a time or two and know that there’s one unspoken rule that might help you out.

DO NOT LEAN FORWARD or move your head from one side to another on Mission: Space. Speaking from experience, you may find yourself pretty dizzy by the time you’re done. If it happens, just stay calm and you can always reach out to a nearby Cast Member if you need help.
