YES, You Can See the Artemis I Rocket Launch from Disney World

Disney World has one extremely unique offering that you may not know about.

When considering unique offerings around the resort, some think of the creative snacks. Others think about the immersive shows. And for many, new attractions launching into action come to mind. But how about another kind of launch — a rocket launch?

If you’re visiting Disney World on Monday, August 29th, you may be able to spot the launch of NASA’s Artemis I mission. This mission will take off from Kennedy Space Center — about 55 miles east of Disney World. And lucky for us, the resort is usually a great place to watch their launches from!

UPDATE: Note that the Artemis I launch has been delayed due to an engine troubleshooting issue, according to The New York Times. As of the most recent update, the launch is currently set to go forward on September 27th.

NASA fans in Florida know that launches are often visible all over the state, especially when skies are clear. We have seen SpaceX Rocket launches from inside the parks, and Space Shuttle launches were often visible in the past.

The Artemis I Space Launch System rocket and Orion capsule are being launched for a 42-day journey around the moon. There won’t be any crew members on board (aside from the 3 mannequins collecting data through sensors to understand how the trip will affect astronauts). It will also mark the official debut of the most powerful rocket ever. This launch is part of the Artemis Lunar program, which is expected to bring astronauts to the moon by 2025.

The launch is currently set for 8:33 a.m. Eastern. If weather delays or issues postpone the launch on August 29th, backup launch dates are scheduled for September 2nd and 5th. So if you were to grab some park pass reservations for those dates…we wouldn’t blame ya.

  1. We saw the Falcon 9 launch from the CBR Skyliner station last April 23 in the early morning and it was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen.
