7 Closures You Need to Know About in Disney World

Over the next few weeks, Disney World is going through some significant changes. First, traditional character meet and greets are returning to the parks, which means we can finally hug Mickey and Minnie again! Later, both the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind attraction and Connections Cafe & Eatery are set to open in EPCOT, proving that it’s going to be a busy summer in the parks and resorts.

Exciting updates are coming soon!

If you need a little help keeping track of all the upcoming projects, our weekly refurbishment update fills you in on all the current refurbishments in Disney World! Let’s take a look at everything that will be closed in Disney World from April 18th to April 24th, 2022.

Magic Kingdom Refurbishments

Walt Disney World Railroad

The Walt Disney World Railroad train is currently unavailable while Disney works on the new TRON roller coaster. Due to some TRON construction that is blocking a portion of the train tracks, the train is unable to pass through the Tomorrowland area of the Magic Kingdom.

Walt Disney World Railroad Station

Currently, there is no opening timeline for TRON: Lightcycle Run, but Disney recently teased that the Walt Disney World Railroad may return soon. Our reporters caught some ride testing on both TRON: Lightcycle Run and the Walt Disney World Railroad, which seems like a good sign!

EPCOT Refurbishments

Souk-Al-Magreb

The Souk-Al-Magreb gift shop is located in the EPCOT World Showcase’s Morocco pavilion. It’s a tiny little store, but it’s been the source of a big mystery! The gift shop has been closed for a long time, and Disney hasn’t shared an official reopening date.

Souk-al-Magreb is closed, but it could reopen soon!

Interestingly, the Disney World refurbishment calendar stops listing Souk-Al-Magreb as “Closed” on April 24th, 2022, though Disney has not made any official statements about the store reopening. We’ll have to wait and see if anything changes on April 24th.

Disney World Water Park Refurbishments

Blizzard Beach Waterpark

Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park is closed for an extended refurbishment. The water park has been closed for a while now, and Disney has not shared any details on the reopening timeline.

The Toboggan Racer

Disney’s other water park, Typhoon Lagoon,  is still open. Additionally, Disney is bringing back a special After Hours event at Typhoon Lagoon this summer. We’ll keep our eyes out for more information on the Blizzard Beach reopening!

Disney Resorts

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is working on a pretty large construction project for DVC guests. Currently, the Big Pine Key building is getting some brand-new DVC Resort-Studio rooms inspired by Mary Poppins Returns

Look out for some construction at the Grand Floridian Resort

The rooms should be complete by late June 2022, and the Disney World website states that during this time, guests may see and hear active construction, though most hotel amenities will remain available throughout the construction project. You might see a little construction around the resort, so keep that in mind.
