PHOTOS: Cinderella Castle’s Makeover Reaches an Important Milestone in Disney World

We’re just a few months away from the official start of Disney World’s 50th Anniversary celebrations.

As part of the 50th Anniversary, we’ll be getting new outfits for Mickey & Minnie, special touches of gold on some rides, and so much more! As part of the celebrations, the beloved Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom is also getting some special decor. We’ve seen some of it installed over the last few weeks, and now the transformation has reached an important milestone!

Recently, Imagineer Zach Riddley shared an important update on the Castle decorations for the 50th Anniversary via Instagram. Riddley said that the Walt Disney Imagineering and Walt Disney World teams installed the FINAL draperies on the Castle recently! And we got to see the completed look today.

Here’s a closer look at what those draperies look like up-close. This was from a previous visit before they had all been finalized.

They add a slightly different feel and touch to the Castle.

Riddley shared that during the next few weeks, the team will start to focus on “crowning the castle roofs with majestic swirls of golden ribbons” for the 50th. Here’s a look at the concept art for the finalized Castle look.

Keep in mind that Cinderella Castle isn’t the only park icon getting a new look for the 50th. Spaceship Earth will be getting new lighting details (that will be a permanent new look), and the Tower of Terror and the Tree of Life will also get special new nighttime details.
