We’ve waited (not so) patiently for Disney to share details about the upcoming 50th Anniversary celebrations at Walt Disney World.
And, today we finally got a glimpse into what is to come! Beginning October 1st, Walt Disney World will be decked out in golden anniversary glory. For 18 months, the parks will be transformed and even Mickey and Minnie will get a new look! So, let’s take a closer look at what this makeover will entail!
All 4 Disney Park icons will be transformed into Beacons of Magic with lighting and “magical” touches that add a bit of sparkle to your visit. Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom will be getting a good dose of pixie dust, with what looks like ribbons on the lower pillars of the castle. The 50th Anniversary logo sits front and center over the clock tower and you can see shades of blue, purple, and pink projected onto the castle.
Over at EPCOT, Spaceship Earth and the new entrance fountain will be getting a splash of color. In the concept art, Spaceship Earth is sparkling with shades of purple, blue, and green projected onto the reflective exterior. And, the entrance fountain is literally radiating light into the sky with the same shades!
We thought The Hollywood Tower Hotel looked great with the holiday projections, but we think this might be even better. In Hollywood Studios, the Tower of Terror will be dropping into the celebrations with special projections featuring a color scheme similar to other park icons.
And, Animal Kingdom will be bringing the Tree of Life alive to wish Disney World a happy birthday. From the concept art, you can spot colorful projections on the animals that are carved into the tree, and the leaves sparkle with purple, blue, and green light. Are we picking up on a theme here?
Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary kicks off on October 1st and will last for 18 months in the parks. We’re keeping track of all the ways Disney plans to celebrate so stay tuned!
