If you’re missing the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover, please raise your hand (both of our hands are high in the air)!

Since the attraction is still closed in Disney World with a bit of a confusing re-opening timeline, let’s break down the latest updates from the Magic Kingdom’s classic ride!
Back in January 2020, PeopleMover experienced random technical difficulties when firefighters arrived on the scene. The rampway appeared to be covered in a fire retardant before the attraction was fixed later.

In March, though, the PeopleMover then shut down unexpectedly prior to the official Disney World closure. However, when the Magic Kingdom opened back in July, the iconic attraction was slated to be one of the first rides to open again. Buuut, that didn’t happen and PeopleMover stayed quiet in Tomorrowland.

Despite fans missing their ride through Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin and Rocket Tower Plaza, the closures were first extended through October 31st.

Without too much information about why the closures were lasting so long, Disney continued to push the closures through late November and then the end of December. A Cast Member previously confirmed with us that PeopleMover’s refurbishment would last through December 26th.

Since December, the attraction refurbishment has been extended a few times. We were hopeful this winter when we received an opening date on January 30th. But the closure was extended through February 28th, and then through April 3rd.

Now, the PeopleMover is expected to reopen on May 1st, 2021. Hopefully, we’ll see the ride up and running then!

So, is there any hope that we’ll see our beloved PeopleMover soon? While there might not be any definite signs of the attraction’s grand reopening, we’ve seen the ride being tested during the day. We also saw Cast Members pushing the PeopleMover…so who knows if that’s a good sign?! This could point to the attraction refurb being close to the finish line. As we find out more details about the PeopleMover, we’ll make sure to keep you updated on everything you need to know!

I hope that this is the beginning of easier access for people in wheelchairs!!! An elevator maybe?
We will be so sad to see this go if it does! I have always looked forward to the relaxing ride.
