Happy 31st Birthday to Disney World’s Hollywood Studios!

Today is a very special day, because Disney’s Hollywood Studios is turning 31! Josh D’Amaro and Cast Members already had a moment to celebrate this morning, but now we want to wish a happy birthday to the Disney park!

The third Walt Disney World theme park ever opened in 1989, and it’s had a wild ride since! Let’s take a quick look at the history of Disney’s most cinematic park.

Back in 1989, Disney-MGM Studios opened up as an ambitious project for a Hollywood of the East, complete with a fully functional movie and animation studio.

A “newspaper” for cast members covered the Disney-MGM Studios’ opening day.

Originally meant to be a tribute to the magic of movie making, guests could take a real backstage tour and watch Disney animators working on Disney films like Lilo and Stitch or Brother Bear. While the movie industry eventually returned to California, Hollywood Studios remained, becoming the theme park for adventure seekers with rides like Tower of Terror and Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster.

Now, thanks to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, it’s one of the most popular Disney theme parks, allowing guests to go to a galaxy far, far away. Now, you don’t just learn about movies at Hollywood Studios; you become a part of them.

Happy Birthday, Hollywood Studios! Here’s to another 31 years of movie magic!
