You might not know this, but some of the attractions at Disney World allow guests to stay in their wheelchairs instead of transferring to the ride vehicle. Beyond staying in your wheelchair, there are also options to make transferring to the vehicle even easier.

While everyone’s accessibility needs might be different, these are some of the favorites that we’ve tested and enjoyed in Disney World. Let’s check them out!
Before we get too far, let’s talk about some different options for wheelchair accessibility for different attractions. There are a few different types, including:
-
- Wheelchair and ECV accessible attractions
- Transfer from ECV to wheelchair attractions
- Transfer from wheelchair and ECV to ride vehicle attractions
- Ambulatory requirements attractions

There are also different options for transferring into the vehicles, including:
-
- Wheelchair Access Vehicles (WAV), where guests can remain in their wheelchairs to experience the attraction
- Transfer Access Vehicle (TAV), where part of the ride vehicle moves to make it easier to transfer, such as a folding seat or swinging door
- Transfer Devices, which can be used to transfer from a wheelchair to a ride vehicle seat, such as an additional bench
To figure out what options work best for you, you’ll want to talk to a Cast Member at that attraction. It might be easier to speak to the Cast Member in front of the attraction so you know your options before getting to the front of the line, but you can also research options online to see what’s available. Cast Members will have the most up to date information, including whether all of the accessible options are working.
Now, let’s check out some of the best accessible rides!
Magic Kingdom
Jungle Cruise

Even if you choose not to use the available wheelchair spot, it’s likely that they will place those who need extra loading time in the wheelchair accessible boat. There’s plenty of room for the rest of your family to join (versus others which only have space for one other person), and the behicle is easy to roll into. It can also fit most power chairs or longer wheelchairs.
“it’s a small world”

For this one, you’ll exit the queue, which has a fairly steep ramp (and don’t forget you’ll have to exit that way as well), and boarding the boat might be a little harder due to the sharp turn. That being said, once you’re on, you’re a bit higher than everyone else, so you can see everything and have room for other members of your family to join. Cast Members can also assist with aligning your wheelchair into the spot.
Other accessible rides include:
-
- Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin
- The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
- The Magic Carpets of Aladdin
- Prince Charming Regal Carrousel
- Under the Sea — Journey of The Little Mermaid
EPCOT
Living with the Land

This is one of the biggest spaces for wheelchairs across Disney World. There isn’t a separate loading station, so you might feel a bit rushed, especially with the rest of the queue watching you load in. The boat level is equal to the dock, so you’re higher than everyone and can see all the plants on both sides of the boat.
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure

The loading area for the wheelchair vehicle is separate, so no one is rushing you while you adjust in the space. The wheelchair space is smaller on this vehicle, but you’ll get the same experience as everyone else once your rat vehicle combines back with the normal vehicles. You get all the same effects with the quick movements, but staying in a wheelchair might be more comfortable.
Other accessible rides include:
-
- Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros
- Journey into Imagination with Figment
- The Seas with Nemo & Friends
Hollywood Studios
Toy Story Mania

This is the only wheelchair accessible ride outside of the different shows (which are pretty awesome, too). There’s a separate loading station where you can take all the time you need to transfer, and Cast Members can securely strap your chair. With all the quick turns and spins, this ride vehicle has one of the most stable wheelchair spaces. While the pull cord is available to shoot your targets, a larger button is also placed on top for those with lower hand dexterity.
Animal Kingdom
Kilimanjaro Safaris

Like Hollywood Studios, this is Animal Kingdom’s only Wheelchair Access Vehicle ride until Pueblo Esperanza gets built in place of DinoLand U.S.A. There is plenty of room to roll on and adjust, and it’s easy to see out the windows on the sides to check out the animals. Since this ride can run between 18 and 22 minutes, depending on the animals, it’s nice to be able to stay in the comfort of your chair for the long duration.
