In case you missed it, Genie+ is no more — as of July 24th the paid skip-the-line service is called Lightning Lane Multi Pass while Individual Lightning Lane is called Lightning Lane Single Pass!

It’s not just the name that’s changing — the new system looks very similar to FastPass+ because you’ll be able to book Lightning Lane reservations BEFORE your trip. We’ve been testing out the new system and we think we discovered a slight hiccup!
It’s official! As of July 24th, Disney Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lanes have become Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass! With these changes, you’ll now be able to:
- Make your Lightning Lane plans BEFORE you get to Disney World
- If you’re staying in a Disney World hotel, you’ll be able to book your first three Lightning Lane reservations seven days before your trip.
- If you’re NOT staying in a Disney World hotel, you’ll be able to book your first three Lightning Lane reservations three days before your trip.
- In a single day, you’ll be able to book Lightning Lane reservations for multiple vacation days.

We’ve successfully used the new system, and so far, we’ve found it super easy to use. You can read more about our full experience with Lightning Lanes here, but while we were testing things out, we did notice that there is one thing that doesn’t seem to be quite as easy as it was before.

With the old Genie+ system (and even with FastPass+, to an extent) you could keep refreshing the My Disney Experience app to “stack” Lightning Lane reservations on top of existing ones depending on timing and availability. This meant that you could have stacked 3,4,5+ Lightning Lanes to be used later in the day.

But, we’re finding that a bit harder to do with this new system since you can only hold three Multi Pass Lightning Lanes at one time. You can still use Multi Passes for more than three Lightning Lanes in one day overall, but you won’t be able to snag a fourth until you’ve used your first, and so on.

A lot of folks would stack Lightning Lanes and head to the parks later in the evening, but that strategy might prove to be difficult. We are finding that many of the popular rides appear to be booked up, but it seems like with the way the new system rotates, you can end up with a Lightning Lane every hour without putting in too much effort.

All that being said — the new Lightning Lane system is far more user-friendly. We don’t think you’ll need to do hours and hours of research to understand a 120-minute rule or even have to worry about what stacking Lightning Lanes even means.
These changes will likely make it much easier for non-Disney World experts to be able to navigate Lightning Lanes — as long as you know which attractions you want to ride!

Booking right at 7AM when the window opens is still going to be a solid strategy, but since Disney has also made it much easier to modify your Lightning Lane selections as well, you might find that you’re able to snag even more popular rides throughout the day and into the evening.

Essentially, the new system evens the playing field and makes it more fair across the board — no matter if you’re a Lightning Lane pro or if you’ve literally never heard the term before stepping foot onto Disney World property.
While it may be harder for certain folks to stack rides how they used to, the new system will hopefully make it a bit easier for the average Disney World visitor to use Lightning Lanes.
