Rides unexpectedly close all the time in Disney World.

You might notice that outdoor rides like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will close anytime there is a storm passing through. Some rides temporarily close for mechanical issues. While others are closed down for planned refurbishments. But when a ride closes for a long-term refurbishment, Disney will usually share an opening timeline as the ride gets closer to opening. We had recently heard that one ride in Hollywood Studios was set to reopen on July 27th, but we recently found out it will be unexpectedly be opening SOONER!
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in Disney’s Hollywood Studios closed on January 8th and has remained closed for a pretty long time. The ride was set to finally open on July 27th, but Disney just announced that it will in fact open on Monday, July 1st!

If you’ve missed this ride as much as we have be sure to be in Hollywood Studios soon! However, as this ride opens, another Disney World ride just recently closed.
Test Track
Test Track closed on June 17th and we don’t have any information about its reopening date or timeline yet. The ride is being reimagined! Besides some concept art, we don’t know much about what this update will entail.

We know that the ride will continue to be a partnership with Chevrolet and that they will be taking some inspiration from the original ride World of Motion.
We’ll be watching for updates! In the meantime, check out what other attractions and restaurants will be closed this week, July 1st through July 6th.
Magic Kingdom
Country Bear Jamboree
Country Bear Jamboree is still being reimagined in Magic Kingdom. The show closed on January 27th and will reopen with the new, updated show on July 17th.

Disney recently shared a sneak peek at some new costumes and the new music coming to the show!
Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade
The opening day attracting, the Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade, officially closed on June 23rd.

This closure is to make room for a new DVC lounge that will soon be coming to Frontierland. This will be the third DVC lounge in Disney World, but we don’t have an opening date, yet.
Tomorrowland Terrace
Tomorrowland Terrace is a restaurant in Magic Kingdom that has usually only been open occasionally, generally during particularly busy seasons. However, it’s been a LONG time since we’ve seen this spot open at all.

Currently, it’s only used for Magic Kingdom fireworks dessert parties, and there’s no word on when it might serve food again.

EPCOT
Restaurant Marrakesh
Restaurant Marrakesh in the Morocco pavilion of World Showcase is closed. The restaurant was previously used as an Annual Passholder lounge during the V.I.Passholder Days, but it has closed once again.

We’re still waiting for the full dining experience to return to this restaurant.
Disney Vacation Club Lounge
The DVC lounge at the Imagination pavilion closed for refurbishment on June 2nd.

The lounge will be closed until July 13th, but while it’s closed, DVC members can use the temporary lounge located at the Odyssey pavilion.

These exclusive lounges offer a place for members to hang out and relax while recharging their phones and themselves. Food and beverages are offered, but remember to go to the Odyssey pavilion for the next few weeks.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Voyage of the Little Mermaid
The Voyage of the Little Mermaid as we know it will NOT return to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It’s closed now, and Disney has confirmed that this show has permanently closed to make way for an updated version.

“The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure”, an all-new stage show, will replace the show in the Animation Courtyard theater in Fall 2024.

Blizzard Beach
Typhoon Lagoon was closed for several months but finally opened on March 17th, 2024! Woo hoo!

However, on that same day (March 17th) Blizzard Beach closed for refurbishments. Since it just closed, we do not know when it will reopen again, but since 2020 we’ve noticed that the two water parks generally flip-flop being open.

That means that, even though it’s currently summertime and thus peak water park season, we may only have one option of water parks to go to. We’ll be watching for news of Blizzard Beach reopening, but for now, just head over to Typhoon Lagoon!
