After months of waiting and even an accidental release, MagicBand+ has finally arrived in Disney World.

These new bands have all the same functionality of the traditional MagicBands (which will still be available by the way), plus some added features that will allow you to interact with things around you when you’re in Disney World! One of those features is that MagicBand+ interacts with the nighttime shows at Magic Kingdom and EPCOT. We headed to Magic Kingdom to watch Enchantment and see what that interaction looks like!
Enchantment fireworks happen nightly at 9:20PM in the Magic Kingdom. We found our spot on Main Street, U.S.A. and settled in for the show. When it began, we expected our MagicBand+ to light up and vibrate in time with the fireworks, music, and lighting effects.

The show was delayed a bit by rain and storms (Florida summer weather, amirite?), but it finally got started and we watched our MagicBand+ in anticipation.

After seeing the band light up and color coordinate with “Harmonious” over in EPCOT, the connection with “Enchantment” in the Magic Kingdom was a let down. Our MagicBand+ would light up and turn back off quickly, and just didn’t display much interactivity until the finale.

We verified with other Disney guests around us that it wasn’t just our MagicBand+ — they were all behaving in the same way. We are unsure if the programming just isn’t as intense for ‘Enchantment’ as for ‘Harmonious,’ or if we were experiencing a “day one glitch.”

Despite a bit of a disappointment at fireworks time, we have been having fun using MagicBand+ to interact with the golden 50th Anniversary character statues around the parks — all you have to do is wave your band at them. Complete the Fab 50 Quest and interact with them all.

In Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, you can use your MagicBand+ to play Batuu Bounty Hunters, where you’ll go around Galaxy’s Edge searching for your next bounty. To play, your MagicBand+ will vibrate as you get closer to your bounty, so it’s kind of like a gam of hot and cold.
MagicBand+ can be purchased online at shopDisney, as well as in select retail locations in the Disney World parks. Guests who are staying at a Disney World hotel can order them ahead of their trip with a pre-arrival discount of $10.

And once you’ve purchased your MagicBand+, be sure to check out our guide for setting up your band that includes details about how to charge it and how to connect it to your My Disney Experience app.
