Magic Kingdom

It’s no secret that a Disney World vacation can be EXPENSIVE. From hotels to park tickets to food, it feels like the spending never ends. But, despite the infinite dollar signs you may see flashing in front of you, we’re here to share our best tips to help you plan a Disney World trip for SO much cheaper!

Look into Value Resorts, Disney Springs Area Hotels, or Staying Off Property

If you’re serious about saving on your Disney World trip, the number one way to save is your hotel. This can be a huge money suck, especially if you don’t plan to spend much time there. There are several categories of “cheaper” hotels you can choose from, depending on your vacation priorities.

All Star Music Resort Pool

First is the classic Disney Value Resort. Disney World has several hotels in its “Value” tier, including three All-Star Resorts, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, and Disney’s Art of Animation Resort. These are Disney’s most affordable resorts that offer that big theming, on-property perks, and that classic Disney vibe.

We’re BIG fans of these resorts because of perks like early entry, free transportation, free water park entry on your day of check-in, and more. That being said, even though the Value Resorts are the cheapest options directly from Disney, they still tend to be more expensive than non-Disney hotels, so it might not be the BEST way to save if you’re 100% committed to trimming your hotel budget.

Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

That brings us to the second option: Disney Springs Resort Area Hotels. These hotels are seriously underrated! We’ve stayed there several times ourselves and have found that they’re a great way to enjoy some of the same perks as official Disney hotels without busting your budget.

Renaissance Orlando Resorts

There are seven of these hotels, all within walking distance of Disney Springs. Disney calls these hotels “Official Walt Disney World Hotels” because they are actually on Disney property, even though they aren’t owned or operated by Disney. These resorts often offer shuttles to the parks, guests still get Early Theme Park Entry, AND they sometimes offer discounts for select stores and restaurants in Disney Springs.

Plus, these hotels sometimes offer room discounts that can be found on their websites. On top of that, you can use your points if you stay with one specific hotel chain! Truly, these are very underrated, and a great “best of both worlds” scenario for saving money while still being on Disney property.

Wyndham Garden Lake Buena Vista

Finally, you can also stay “off property,” which means any location that isn’t on official Disney property. This can be a great way to save, especially if you’re going with a big group and can split the cost of an Airbnb.

But there are some caveats. For one, you’ll lose out on some Disney perks like free transportation, early entry, and select discounts that you could qualify for. You’ll also need to budget for Ubers, rideshares, or rental cars, which can get costly, especially if you are with a big group and need multiple cars To really save money staying off property, you need to consider everything you’ll pay for, and you should compare it to prices at Disney World because just choosing to stay somewhere else isn’t guaranteed to be the cheapest option.

Don’t Pay For a Park Hopper Ticket

There are a few kinds of Disney World tickets — the standard, Park Hopper, and Park Hopper Plus. Anything beyond the standard ticket is going to cost more, with the Park Hoppers giving you the added benefit of visiting more than one theme park on the same day.

If you only have one or two days in Disney World, a Park Hopper ticket can be a great way to experience multiple parks in a short time. On the other hand, if you have a longer trip or you just don’t enjoy the added hustle of tackling multiple parks in the same day, this can just be an added fee on top of your already pricey park tickets.

EPCOT

This decision will come down to how long your trip is and whether you have the stamina for multiple parks a day. If you don’t see yourself park hopping much — or at all — during your trip, skipping this add-on is a solid place to trim your budget.

Don’t Book Without a Discount

There’s almost always a deal going on for Disney World vacation bookings! Disney runs deals on hotels, tickets, and dining, and when one deal ends…there’s likely another one not far behind it. If you go to the special offers page on the Disney World website, this is where you’ll find the different deals offered at any given time.

Satuli Canteen

This year, Disney is even offering a specially priced “After 2 PM Ticket” for early summer! It’s a date-based ticket with start dates from May 26th to July 29th, 2026. If you’re flying in and want to hit the parks or you want a chill morning and an easy afternoon in the parks, this is a great way to save.

Different groups can also qualify for exclusive discounts, including Annual Passholders, military members, Disney Vacation Club Members, Disney+ subscribers, and more. When searching for deals, be sure to check for any special offers that you qualify for, rather than just looking at the standard discounts!

Discounted Gift Cards

You can use Disney gift cards to pay for your purchases around Disney World, including hotels, restaurants, park tickets, and merchandise. That means, if you stock up on discounted gift cards, you can save on just about everything you purchase during your trip!

Sam’s Club gift cards

You can buy discounted gift cards from a lot of big-name retailers like Costco, Sam’s Club, and Target. The discounts vary, but for example, a retailer may offer a $500 gift card for $450. It might not seem like a big deal at first, but if you start stocking up on them in advance, those savings can add up quickly! It can also make spending at Disney feel less stressful, since you’ve essentially pre-paid for everything bought with a gift card.

This can also help you budget during your vacation. Remaining gift card balances are typically printed at the bottom of your receipt, or you can go to disneygiftcard.com to check your balances or move your money all to one card.

Bring Your Own Water

Most of the quick service restaurants around Disney World offer free cups of tap water, which is good for saving money on a drink in a pinch. But we still recommend bringing your own water for a few reasons. First, lots of people have complaints about the taste of the tap water in Disney World (we’ve heard the flavor described as “dirt” by some).

Free water!

If the flavor doesn’t bother you, the free water from restaurants or water fountains around the parks might be all you need. But if you are someone who can’t stomach the taste, we suggest ordering a case of water from your preferred brand when you get to your hotel room. That way, you can stay hydrated without having to spend $3-$5 per bottle of water throughout the day.

Bottled water is NOT cheap in Disney World

If you do the math on how much it costs per bottle when you buy a case, compared to how much you would spend buying that many bottles of water from Disney, the savings add up FAST on this one!

Eat Meals in Your Room

Speaking of ordering things to your hotel, let’s talk meals. Dining in Disney World is one of our favorite hobbies, but it gets super pricey. The snacks, quick service lunches, and table service dinners will cost you hundreds on your trip (and maybe more if you’ve got a big family)! That’s why eating meals in your room can save you SO much money.

Groceries

Now, this isn’t the most fun aspect of money saving, but it is honest. Having groceries delivered to your hotel or going out to grab them is a great way to save. Breakfast is one of the easiest meals to skip in the parks. Do some grab-and-go bites and hit the early morning rope drop. Bringing sandwiches to the parks can also help you eat on the go, and it will definitely cost you less than even an affordable quick service meal.

All the snacks!

Now, we’re not saying zero meals in the parks. That’s up to you and your budget! But finding the balance of what works for you can go a long way towards helping you save.

Ditch the Disney Dining Plan

Keeping with the food theme, our next suggestion is to ditch the Disney Dining Plan. There are definitely exceptions for this, especially if you’re getting it for free as part of a room deal you found while searching for those special offers we mentioned earlier.

Disney Dining Plan Symbol

But if you have to pay for it out of pocket, it’s probably not in your best budget interest. Plus, skipping the Disney Dining Plan also saves you from being put in a position where you’re either “forced” to eat or lose money. When you buy the Disney Dining Plan, you’re essentially pre-paying for your food since it’s not much cheaper (if any) than buying the meals as you go, depending on what you order.

Burger & Fries

Basically, if you get it as part of a package deal for free, that’s great! But if you’re just looking for a way to pre-pay for your food, we’d suggest stocking up on discounted Disney gift cards as your best option for savings.

Be Smart With Your Credit Card

Use credit card points to your advantage, whether or not it is a Disney credit card! Several members of our team buy gift cards at Kroger or Publix because they get 6% cash back at grocery stores with their credit card. They also put aside some of those cash back rewards to use on their trips. Depending on your credit card, you may also be able to use points to book flights or hotels.

Disney Visa

Since rewards and points vary by provider and card type, you’ll need to check the details of what your card offers, but the point is, don’t overlook the ways you can both use your rewards to help fund your trip AND get cash back from your vacation purchases!

There’s no getting around it — there are a lot of expenses involved in planning a Disney World vacation.
