Did Disney World Quietly Confirm an Important Detail About Its New Monsters Inc. Land?

We had a ton of emotions when Disney World first announced that Muppets Courtyard would be closing to make way for a new land inspired by Monsters, Inc.

We were very sad to say goodbye to Muppet*Vision 3D, but at the same time, Disney is about to give us the roller coaster of our dreams straight from the Monsters, Inc. movie. Now, Disney has not formally announced the name of this new land…but we’re starting to think it’s been teased all along.

So, let’s go back to when Disney first announced the new land. Now, we’ve scoured our brains (and the Internet), but we did not find ANY indication that Disney actually named its new land. At the time, it was just referred to as the “Monsters, Inc. Land.”

However, earlier this year, Disney presented some more details about the land, including more information about the ride, which will be Disney’s first suspended roller coaster. Disney posted a lot of those details on its blog, and that blog referenced the land as Disney’s Hollywood Studios: Monstropolis, suggesting that Monstropolis is the name of the new land.

But like we said, there was no official announcement regarding that, at least not like the announcement Disney made when it revealed the name of Pueblo Esperanza in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. So, at the time, we thought maybe it was just a placeholder name (although, let’s face it, what else would make a better name for this new space?).

Well, fast forward to recently. Disney recently put some displays up inside the Walt Disney Presents attraction, showcasing three of the new lands coming to the parks, including the Monsters, Inc. land. The display, though, very specifically calls it Monstropolis. HMMM…

So, is that it? Is that the name of the new land? It certainly makes sense, as the land is based on the city of Monstropolis we see in Monsters, Inc. For the record, the Walt Disney Presents display refers to it as “Monstropolis” twice.

Still, it’s strange that Disney has not made an official announcement regarding the name of the land. For now, we’ll just have to keep an eye out for such an announcement or future discussions Disney has about the land to see if that’s the name that sticks. We’re all for it — and we can’t wait to step inside!

In the meantime, check back with AllEars again soon for more.
