Get ready to SCREAM… with excitement!

Earlier this summer at the D23 Ultimate Fan Event, Disney announced a ride that was decades in the making: The Monsters, Inc. door coaster! A ride of this kind had been rumored and speculated on for two decades, and now it’s coming to Hollywood Studios.
When Disney initially confirmed the attraction, and the full Monsters, Inc. land that will surround it, Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro told the crowd, “You’ll go into the factory and experience the first suspended coaster ever in a Disney park. Remember in the movie how those claws grab the doors and hoist them up into the air to take them away? We’re doing that, too. And you’re going along for the ride.”

Now, we finally have more details about the attraction. Check out the NEW video Disney just shared at the SXSW Conference in Texas. This coaster can be RAISED and LOWERED!

The loading process is meant to make it feel like you are in the scene from the movie when the door is pulled up from the ground. It is Disney’s first-ever vertical lift-loading mechanism, and it looks pretty neat.

As a reminder, Disney confirmed earlier this year that the new Monsters, Inc. Land will be taking over Muppets Courtyard. We knew this was a popular theorized location based on the previously released artist renderings Disney had teased up to that point in during 2024’s D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, it didn’t mean that there wasn’t a collective “aww” when it was officially confirmed.

Disney also previously confirmed new dining locations coming to the land. From the concept art we have so far, it appears that we know one restaurant will be in the new land — HarryHausen’s from the Monsters, Inc. film! At this time, we don’t know what type of restaurant this will be, but we’re assuming it’ll be table service (similar to how Mama Melrose’s is in Muppets Courtyard right now), and we’re hoping to hear about a quick service restaurant that will move into PizzeRizzo’s current spot.

To make room for this new land, Disney’s Hollywood Studios will begin a phased closing of the Grand Ave land, starting with Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano and PizzeRizzo’s last day in operation on May 10th, followed by the last day to experience MuppetVision 3D as of June 7th. If you’re looking to get one last experience with the Muppets before they take over Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster on the opposite side of the park, you’ll need to make sure to say goodbye to them in the current home before June 8th.
A Monsters, Inc. door coaster has been LONG ANTICIPATED by Disney fans, and now we know a lot more specifics! Stay tuned to AllEars for more on all of Disney World’s upcoming attractions.
