Alright, let’s talk about something at Disney World that’s been on our minds lately, specifically at EPCOT.

I know it’s the holidays, and we’d be totally right to be completely absorbed in the season and dreaming of going to the Festival of the Holidays as many times as possible, but there’s something else that has been occupying more and more space in our mind. We’re talking about a new lounge that Disney announced months ago, but at the moment, we’re concerned that it’s starting to feel like this project might be falling to the bottom of the priority list!
Way back at D23, Disney announced that EPCOT would be getting a brand-new Spaceship Earth Lounge, and immediately we were hooked. Now, they’ve been pretty tight-lipped about the details, however they did share that it would will be inspired by the “stories, shapes, and enduring legacy” of Spaceship Earth. There will be lots of rich textures and warm metallic tones for a “mysterious and elegant intimacy.” They also said that would be open in 2025.

That’s all well and good, but here we are, almost in December, and Disney hasn’t said a word about it since the announcement, and with everything else happening at the parks, as we said, it’s starting to feel like this project might be falling rapidly to the bottom of the priority list.
Does No News = Bad News?
Here’s the thing: Disney has been busy. I mean REALLY busy. Here’s just a smattering of the projects currently on the table:
-
- Magic Kingdom is getting a Villains Land and two Cars-themed attractions.
- Hollywood Studios is getting a new Villains stage show and a Monsters, Inc. land.
- Animal Kingdom is having DinoLand U.S.A. re-themed into the Tropical Americas, plus a new Zootopia-themed show is coming to replace It’s Tough to Be a Bug.
Those feel like they’re just the tip of the iceberg, and that means that the Spaceship Earth Lounge might not be Disney’s top priority right now. Plus, there’s another red flag: No permits have been filed yet for construction. Usually, Disney starts filing paperwork for big projects well in advance, especially when said project is supposed to open (theoretically) in a couple of months.
Could It Be Delayed?
It wouldn’t be the first time a Disney project gets pushed back or quietly shelved. EPCOT’s multi-year transformation had already seen many changes and delays (remember the Play! Pavilion?), so we wouldn’t be surprised if the Spaceship Earth Lounge follows that trend.

Still, it would go a long way in easing our minds if Disney would give any updates. Even just a, “hey, we’re still working on it!” would be greatly appreciated.

At the end of the day, we’re keeping our fingers crossed that the Spaceship Earth Lounge is still happening, and Disney is just being extra quiet about the details. But, we’ll be honest, with so much going on across all four parks, it’s hard not to worry.

In the meantime, keep it right here at AllEars and we’l keep you updated on the progress of the Spaceship Earth Lounge as well as all the latest Disney news!
