We love heading to the Isle of Berk from How To Train Your Dragon while we’re at Epic Universe. Where else can you ride a roller coaster and pet a dragon in the same place?

But Universal just quietly announced a closure for the Isle of Berk that could impact your next trip!
Universal quietly announced that Viking Training Camp will close from May 4th to May 22nd, 2026. At Viking Training Camp, junior Vikings can discover all types of dragons in a sprawling, colorful, interactive play area. Adventures include multiple towers to climb and explore, a fun agility course, Viking drums and chimes to play, an interactive sheep launcher game, plus slides and activities for the youngest Vikings.

If you’re at the Isle of Berk during the closure, the other How To Train Your Dragon rides will remain open. This includes family-friendly Fyre Drill, a watery boat battle where teams of Vikings compete to outscore and out-soak each other. You can also catch The Untrainable Dragon, a live show where the arrival of a new dragon in Berk presents a challenge to Hiccup, Gobber, and Astrid.

For bigger kids, hop on roller coaster Hiccup’s Wing Gliders, which will soar you through the land on Hiccup’s latest flying contraption. The bravest Vikings could also ride Dragon Racer’s Rally, where you practice aerobatic maneuvers on a Viking-made dragon-riding trainer in hopes of becoming a champion dragon-racer.

This isn’t the only Epic Universe closure for May, though – Mine-Cart Madness will be closed on May 3rd, 2026. This Super Nintendo World ride will have you enter the majestic Golden Temple, board your mine cart, and take off to help Donkey Kong protect the Golden Banana. Speeding through the mine, you’ll appear to jump across gaps in the track and perform other eye-popping feats from the Donkey Kong Country video games!

If you’re headed to Epic Universe in May, these closures could massively affect your trip. Stay tuned to AllEars for more theme park news!
