This Has to Be the Weirdest Rule EVER at Epic Universe

Universal’s Epic Universe has one of the most bizarre theme park rules we’ve ever come across.

Ever since Epic Universe opened, we have enjoyed incredible food, the immersive rides, and so much more. But this one theme park rule has thrown some guests for a loop.

One of the more interesting offerings at Epic Universe will be the Darkmoor Monster Makeup Experience. Located in the park’s Universal Monsters-themed Dark Universe portal, the upcharge experience is set in the abandoned lab of Dr. Pretorius, which has been “converted into a parlor to continue the spirit of his demented experiments.”

Here, “skilled artisans use their talents to experiment on customers and release their inner love of Universal Monsters –– be they werewolves, vampires, or something even more fashionably monstrous.” It’s all very similar to Disney’s Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, except instead of turning children into elegant princesses and shining knights, it transforms guests ages 5 and older into Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster, a werewolf, and other monstrous personas.

Monster Makeup Experience

The Monster Makeup Experience offers two main packages for guests:

  • The Experiment Ticket, which “gets you in the hot seat where skilled monster makers will give your flesh a (temporarily) monstrous appearance” using makeup.
  • The Transformation Ticket, which adds clothing and accessories to the makeup offering, completely transforms guests into their favorite monsters.

Both tiers of the experience transform guests into a monster at the heart of their own Universal horror story. However, there’s one thing they won’t be able to do:

Drink alcohol.

That’s right, in one of the most interesting theme park rules we’ve come across in a long time, “Guests will not be able to purchase or consume alcoholic beverages at any of the Universal theme parks or Universal CityWalk while in makeup,” according to Universal.

I Paid $50 To Get My Face Painted at a Theme Park, and I’d Do It Again

While the rule certainly does make sense, considering how hard it would be for Universal team members to accurately match someone’s ID photo when their face is covered in monster makeup, it’s still an interesting choice given the fact that the Monster Makeup Experience is very popular amongst guests over 21.

Sorry, you can’t enjoy a drink at the Burning Blade Tavern while in makeup

If you’re planning on having Universal turn you into a vampire, werewolf, or other creature of the night, just be warned you won’t be able to enjoy an alcoholic beverage while in the guise of your horror visage. Stay tuned to AllEars for more on Epic Universe!
