Did This Addition Ruin Disney’s Most Popular Ride?

Disney World reopened in 2020 with tons of safety measures in place. One of those safety measures was plexiglass that was added to lots of high trafficked areas like ride queues, registers, and Quick Service restaurants.

Rise of the Resistance

Disney has continued installing plexiglass on attractions in an effort to increase rider capacity. But while more people may be able to ride the attractions due to plexiglass, there are definitely pros and cons to the safety measure for your ride experience.

Rise of the Resistance is the newest addition to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, having first opened in December 2019 at Disney World. The ride is limited to guests who secure a boarding group during the two times that Disney opens the virtual queue daily. The competition for this popular ride makes it that much sweeter when it is finally your turn to ride. But, is it worth going through all the trouble for your view to be obscured by plexiglass?

When the attraction first reopened, the ride could load very few guests at a time, making it extremely difficult to get on this ride during your Disney vacation. So, it was generally a great thing when Disney added more plexiglass the attraction. More people could ride in a day!

However, we have found that plexiglass comes with its downsides for the ride experience. For instance, in the transporter part of the pre-show, the plexiglass causes a lot of reflections from the use of screens.

And, once you’re in the ride vehicle, if you’re in the second row you will also likely notice a lot of instances where your reflection is prominent.

All in all, the additional plexiglass was done in an effort to increase the ride’s capacity, making it more feasible to ride Rise of the Resistance during your stay. But, the added barriers also have an effect on the ride experience.

Disney will likely continue to adjust their attraction seating and experience as the year unfolds, and we’ll continue to keep you updated as they do!

  1. Having done RotR before the plexiglas, I find repeat visits aren’t marred by the separation barriers. First timers may disagree, though.

  2. I definitely thought the experience parts were awesome! My ride portion was more like “what’s happening? Where is that voice coming from? oh my hair is a bit of a mess…” I went home and watched a POV YouTube video and understood the ride a bit more and thought how cool it would have been had I seen these things.
