Although brand new attractions like Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure are opening today, EPCOT still has plenty of other projects in the works for Disney World’s 50th anniversary. And, one such project is the expansive Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Coaster that will be opening in 2022!

When guests board the attraction, they will be able to “visit” Xandar as the building is supposed the house the first intergalactic pavilion created by the Xandarians. The Guardians of the Galaxy are popping in to EPCOT too, of course, as everyone goes on a wild ride through the galaxy. While we recently gave you a first look inside the attraction and at the ride vehicles, now we have a better view of the coaster’s track!
During Good Morning America’s special to kick off Disney World’s 50th anniversary, Imagineers gave fans a sneak peek inside the Guardians of the Galaxy ride building. When it’s completed, the attraction will be one of the longest indoor roller coaster tracks in the world (!!!)…and maybe even across the galaxy!

During the ride-through, the ride vehicles will travel through set pieces like the pink and purple galaxy pictured below, as well as a planet. Similar to what we’ve seen previously at Rock ‘N Roller Coaster, the set pieces will appear more immersive when the lights are out and the special effects are on at the Guardians of the Galaxy Coaster.

Since Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will be one of the longest indoor roller coasters, it shouldn’t be a surprise that the ride building housing it is HUGE! When we were able to visit, we estimated that it was double the size of Rock ‘N Roller Coaster’s ride building in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

While the track itself is definitely impressive, the “omnicoaster” ride vehicles are a feat we can’t wait to experience! The vehicles will be slingshotted into the galaxy with a reverse launch, as the omnicoasters turn guests to face important parts of the coaster’s story.

As more details are revealed about the Guardians of the Galaxy Coaster in Disney World, we’ll be sure to update you on everything you need to know! Stay tuned with AllEars for the latest Disney entertainment and news!

Is it just me, or have we been sleeping on this ride and it appears vastly closer to completion than we realized? I just assumed Tron was much closer and Guardians’ construction was way behind it, but now? Not so much. I could see both of these opening by next spring (Tron sooner).
Unfortunately I fear they will only open one coaster in 2022 and hold the other until 2023. I am afraid that Disney won’t open Guardians until October 1, 2022 as that will be the 40th anniversary for EPCOT, and Tron won’t open until the following year. I could be mistaken and Tron could open late spring/early summer, but I can’t imagine that they won’t hold Guardians back until EPCOT’s 40th.
Ratatouille was almost ready to open before the pandemic hit, but Disney held back on it until today because fiscal year 2021 was pretty much a wash already, and having a new attraction opening now will likely drive up attendance and merch sales.
