Using Lightning Lanes in Disney World is a great way to save time on your vacation, but it will cost you extra, so you’ll need to weigh whether the higher cost is worth having more time to do what you’d like in the park.

We’ve told you about how the one-hour return time rule is actually more like a 2-hour and 59-minute return time, where you’ll still scan green for the majority of attractions, but there’s ANOTHER Lightning Lane hack that we cannot believe people aren’t shouting to the rooftops about, so we’re here to change that.
It’s important to understand the date-based ticket loophole when you’re booking your Lightning Lanes. This sounds a little confusing at first, but just stay with us!

If you’re not a resort guest but are purchasing a multi-day date-based ticket, you will select the start date for your ticket that gives you a window of eligibility. You can use your ticket at any point during that window.

However, when booking Lightning Lanes (AFTER you’ve bought your tickets, since you can’t buy Lightning Lanes without having eligible tickets for the park in your account already), you can actually pre-book your lightning lanes 3 days before the first day of ELIGIBILITY, not 3 days before you plan to use your ticket! So putting your eligibility a few days before the first day you plan to go to the parks means you can essentially BREAK the 3 day rule!

So theoretically, if your ticket window opens on Monday but you’re not using tickets/Lightning Lanes until Wednesday, you can book your Lightning Lanes on Friday!

We’ve tried this out ourselves and can confirm that it works! This is fantastic for the non-hotel guests who are trying to book some of the highest sought-after Lightning Lanes that usually sell out quickly — the more days in advance you can book, the better!
