We Paid $80 for a Meal at EPCOT, and We’re Not Sure How We Feel About It

Let’s talk about controversial EPCOT dining!

EPCOT

EPCOT is known for its festivals, fan-favorite rides, and, of course, the food! There are some amazing places to try and snacks to enjoy in the park but there’s one meal that still has us torn every time we try it out. Let’s break down our feelings around Space 220!

Disney World can be expensive, but sometimes we feel like it’s worth the price and other times? Not so much. No matter how much time passes, we are still super torn about how Space 220 made us feel in EPCOT. Space 220 is a table service in EPCOT that is truly out of this world!

Space 220

This table service is a super immersive dining experience that takes you straight up into space. You get on an elevator that lets you “ascend to the stars”  and takes you exactly 220 miles above Earth before you enjoy your meal next to Mission: SPACE.

Space 220

This spot offers lunch and dinner options that will run up your bill almost as quickly as the restaurant’s elevator takes you to the stars. For lunch, it’ll cost you $55 per adult and $29 per child, and dinner will cost $80 per adult and $35 per child. So why are we torn about this experience? The food is only okay! (If we could put a crying emoji here, we would.)

Food from Space 220

Every time we’ve dined at this spot, we found the flavors to be lacking, only okay, or good but not enough to justify the price tag! Even the really cool beverages that you can purchase don’t help this restaurant’s case. While they have been tasting and unique thanks to cool additions like pop rocks, you have to pay an additional fee on top of the already pricey pre-fixe meal.

Moon Rocks

Why are we so torn if this food is only okay for the price? It’s still such an incredible atmosphere! This restaurant offers a glimpse into what the Galactic Starcruiser (Disney’s failed Star Wars hotel) tried to do, in a way. It puts you in an environment that is genuinely immersive thanks to the windows that look into space, thematic elements throughout the meal and drinks, and that fun little “elevator ride” that makes you feel like you’re flying.

A look inside

Now are we saying you should pay $80 for an elevator ride? No! Are you looking for a neat experience that isn’t really repeatable, with decent food and drinks? Then you should consider doing this one time! If you want a meal that is truly worth the price you’re paying, we don’t think Space 220 is for you. While previous menu additions like the Grow Zone Sprouts Salad have really improved the restaurant, we don’t know that it’s enough!

Grow Zone Sprouts Salad

If you’re looking for some delicious dining in EPCOT specifically, we have become massive fans of Shiki Sai: Sushi Izakaya! This spot is over in the Japan pavilion and it offers up some incredible sushi and other Japanese delights. We have been multiple times, and we are impressed each time thanks to how great the food is especially for the price.

It’s so good!

If you’re really dying to go to space but don’t want to pay the prix fixe price, you can always attempt the Space 220 Lounge, but it fills up quickly! Are we still torn on Space 220? Honestly, yes! If you want a really neat, immersive experience this is definitely one of them. The food also isn’t horrible! It’s just not as good as we would want it to be for $80 per person. If you want a good meal that’s worth the price tag, this isn’t the spot for that.

It’s just not our favorite!

If you love it though, keep doing you! You’re the one paying for the meal, not us, so do as you please as long as you keep following AllEars for all of your Disney news and updates!

  1. The atmosphere was amazing, my husband loves everything space and he really enjoyed it. However, the steak tasted like it had been boiled instead of grilled and the Caesar salad was so heavy with dressing, I couldn’t eat it. Next time we will go to the lounge, have appetizers and enjoy the ambience.

  2. My experience has been different……I’m a repeat customer on my annual visits to Epcot BECAUSE of the food, not the experience. The Blue Moon Cauliflower appetizer is out of this world….other good restaurants, like Homecomin’ at Disney Springs…have similar dishes that don’t even come close to comparing. My experience with entrees is limited, because the first time I had the Galactic Miso Salmon, it was so melt-in-your-mouth delicious that I cannot begin to think of ordering something else on repeat visits. So, I give kudos to the chefs at Space 220!

    1. My family and I ate here two years ago, we found the food delicious and we can’t wait to go back. The animation is worth the price of your meal. This is Disney at it’s best.
