Shorter legroom, diminished comfort, iffy customer service, and other issues have brought down Spirit Airlines’ reputation over the years. But if you’re cool with that because you’re saving lots of money, then it evens out.
Spirit Is In Financial Flux
Spirit Airlines isn’t doing so hot financially. It’s just exiting bankruptcy and has been cutting capacity and flights (despite adding some routes to Orlando).
Spirit’s financial woes have been building up for quite some time and 2025 could be ugly for the airline. Be ready for anything — including mass cancellations or the airline disappearing altogether.
Prepare For Flight Complications
Speaking of cancellations, Spirit Airlines is notorious for a large number of delayed and canceled flights. Expect the worst and you won’t be disappointed.
With that in mind, try your best to avoid non-refundable hotels, rentals, etc., or get travel insurance. You never know how you’ll be set back if Spirit can’t take you to your destination on time.
Be Ready to Entertain Yourself
As THE budget airline, Spirit Airlines doesn’t offer much entertainment, so you’ll need to watch content already pre-downloaded on your devices or read material you brought. Many streaming apps allow you to download movies, shows, and music, negating the need for wifi.
Remember to also bring portable batteries for your devices, as you won’t be able to charge them otherwise.

Spirit Airlines may be cheap, but you’ll be surprised just how cheap flights can get.
Prices can fluctuate daily, so keep checking online as much as possible to get the best value and lock in prices you’re comfortable with

Spirit Airlines also has a reputation for being sneaky and will try to get you to pay for extra add-ons if you’re not paying attention, especially when you’re just about to check out.

I’ve flown Spirit many times with no delays or problems. Even when I decide to pay extra for a checked bag, it’s less expensive than the major airlines.
We flew with them for the first time a few months ago. And we’ve actually flown with them now for flights, total, and each time we’ve actually had a really good experience.
