6 NEW Permits Filed for Disney World Attractions

Disney World is going through some serious changes and we’re pretty darn excited about them!

DinoLand, U.S.A.

The Animal Kingdom retheme of DinoLand, U.S.A. into the new Tropical Americas land is already in progress, and the Villains Land and Cars area rethemes at Magic Kingdom are in progress, too. While those changes might be a ways away, we spotted some new permits that might mean more work is coming soon to Disney World.

We’re always on the hunt for the latest construction permits Disney has filed to get an idea of what projects might be on the horizon around the parks and more! We search for Notices of Commencement to find out what sort of work might be going on. Let’s take a look at what we found this time around!

EPCOT

Test Track has been closed since June 2024, and Disney has shared that the updated version of this ride will take inspiration from the old ride, World of Motion, that was originally in its spot when the park opened in 1982. We spotted a new permit that listed Buena Vista Construction Company as the contractor, which is owned by Disney. While we don’t have many details on the permit, hopefully, it means we’re getting closer to the ride being ready for its summer reopening timeline!

A new lounge is coming to Spaceship Earth and we are pretty stoked about it! The lounge is supposed to open sometime this spring, and a new permit has been filed for more work in this area. We had already seen construction walls pop up, so it seems like things are moving right along.

Hollywood Studios

Over in Hollywood Studios, a new show will be replacing the former Voyage of the Little Mermaid. “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure” is a reimagining of the previous show, bringing a live-action re-telling — in a new way — back to Hollywood Studios. A new permit has been filed for work in the theater, but that’s about as specific as it gets. The new show is set to open this summer!

Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy closed back in October to make way for Disney’s NEW Villains show coming to this theater. Disney recently filed a new permit to “Provide labor, material, and/or electrical for construction” at the former meet-and-greet locations back in this area of the park. We anticipate this whole area will be rethemed to fit the new Villains vibe!

Magic Kingdom

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure has been having a rough go of it lately, and Disney has even chosen to close the ride earlier than the park on several upcoming days — likely to provide some much-needed TLC on the ride. That could have something to do with a new permit we found to “Provide labor, material, and/or electrical for construction.” While we don’t know what all Disney is doing here, we’ll let you know if we spot any significant changes!

And finally, over at the Haunted Mansion, a new permit has been filed with Buena Vista Construction Company again listed as the contractors. We don’t have many details, but the Disneyland version of this ride was recently updated with a new Bride scene! Could this change be coming to Disney World as well? We’ll be on the lookout!
