Things aren’t always so magical in “The Most Magical Place on Earth.”

That’s okay, though — if you’re prepared for the problems you might face, you’ll tackle them with NO problems because you ARE prepared. So we’re going to talk about transportation here and let you know about the problems you could have with transportation in Disney World and how you can get around them.
Skyliner
The Skyliner might be the most convenient form of transportation at Disney World. You can take the Skyliner to and from EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Riviera Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, and Disney’s Pop Century Resort. It’s also almost an attraction in and of itself.

However, you may find that the Skyliner doesn’t always run in Disney World. Sometimes, the Skyliner goes down if bad weather is in the area (or if bad weather is on the way). Sometimes, the Skyliner might be down for a refurbishment (we typically see this in January every year). So what should you do?

Well, the good news is that if the Skyliner is down, alternative bus transportation will be provided to those places the Skyliner goes. However, if the Skyliner temporarily closes for whatever reason, you may find yourself waiting for a WHILE for the first bus to show up (because someone has to inform dispatch and send new buses out). So keep that in mind if you’re planning on taking the Skyliner anywhere or if you’re staying at a Skyliner resort.
Boats
Taking a boat around Disney World is a relaxing way to get from point A to point B and it’s often one of the least stressful modes of transportation at the resort. However, boats will also close due to bad weather because it’s dangerous to be out on the water when there’s a storm (especially if there’s lightning).

Most recently, we saw an issue with boats being closed because the waterways around Disney World were low due to drought-like conditions. If you had planned on taking a boat somewhere, you should be able to take a Disney bus instead to your destination. If you’re taking a boat to Magic Kingdom from the Ticket & Transportation Center, you can just hop on the Monorail.
Monorail
We often see the Monorail having problems at the Ticket & Transportation Center, which affects how we get to Magic Kingdom. However, if the Monorail is down, you can do the OPPOSITE of what we told you above: take a boat instead to Magic Kingdom. However, if you’re staying at a resort near the Magic Kingdom, you may just be able to walk to your destination via a special pedestrian walkway made just for that.

Otherwise, Disney buses will be available if you need transportation to Magic Kingdom or anywhere else on Disney World property.
Disney Buses
Disney buses are fairly reliable, but some things can slow them down. First, accidents will always slow traffic, which affects buses. Likewise, race weekends bring a lot of extra traffic to the resort, which means buses could run slower than normal.

So how can you deal with this transportation problem? If you’re somewhere with alternative transportation options, take those. But mostly, you’ll just need patience and understand that you may have to wait longer for a bus than you normally would. Also, if you want to be somewhere at a particular time (perhaps for an advance dining reservation), give yourself plenty of extra time to get there, so get in that bus line as early as you can.

Several times when we were on the bus the driver said they would need to make a detour to avoid some type of road issue such as a wreck or construction. This is one reason why we enjoy the bus transportation. Taking our own car, we might not realize a traffic issue until it’s too late.
Also, for those staying at Old Key West Resort. If the area gets a LOT of rain, it could raise the water levels in the channel. This will close the boat shuttle to Disney Springs because they can’t fit under a low bridge going across the channel.
the transportation system is included in the price of admission to the theme parks.
