Disney recently announced the opening day for the new Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind roller coaster, so we’ve got Marvel on our minds!

We’ve seen several looks inside the attraction’s queue, watched a new commercial for the coaster, and even tested out the ride vehicles. With all this talk about Guardians of the Galaxy, we’re remembering another seriously impressive piece of Disney technology — did you forget about the autonomous BABY GROOT?
Back in the summer of 2021, Disney revealed “Project Kiwi,” which is a life-sized Baby Groot animatronic that can walk around and interact with guests all on its own!

We’ve only seen this amazing robot in action during presentations, and Imagineers said last year that there was still a lot of work to be done before Groot could debut in the parks. Essentially, Imagineers had to create the first-ever “small-scale, free-roaming robotic actor,” and that’s no small feat.

The Groot animatronic walks just like Groot does in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, and it can wave at people and even make different facial expressions! It took some seriously impressive new technology to bring Groot to life in this way.

We think the Baby Groot looks amazing, but Disney hasn’t said yet when (or if) it would finally arrive in a park. Could the opening of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind finally bring Baby Groot to EPCOT? We haven’t heard any updates so far, but we’d love to see it in action soon! In the meantime, you can check out this video about the project:
We’ll be sure to let you know when Disney releases an update about Baby Groot. Stay tuned with AllEars!
