4 Disney World Attractions You Won’t Be Able to Ride This Week

It takes a lot of hard work to keep the theme parks looking fresh and new!

Rivers of America Drained

Disney World will often schedule refurbishments throughout the year on certain attractions. Some attractions undergo major transformations while others are closed seasonally. It’s best to come prepared knowing which rides will be closed during your vacation so you can plan around it! Let’s take a look at the refurbishment schedule for next week between December 14th through December 20th, 2020.

Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover

The PeopleMover was slated to reopen with the rest of Magic Kingdom in July this year. The beloved attraction remained closed well past the reopening date and we were anticipating a new opening date.

Instead, the PeopleMover ended up on the refurbishment schedule which was extended twice. The attraction is now scheduled to open on January 9th, 2021. We’ll keep you updated if the refurb is scheduled beyond this date!

Walt Disney World Railroad

The train in the Magic Kingdom is not doing its grand-circle tour around the park at this time. The closure is due to the construction of the new roller coaster, TRON Lightcycle Run. The new attraction is located on the outer of the Magic Kingdom and is interrupting the train’s services.

Magic Kingdom Train Station

Guests can still enter the lower level of Main Street’s Train Station and take pictures of the parked train in Fantasyland. The train could reopen around the debut of TRON, which is slated to open in October 2021. There is no official date of the train’s return, however.

Tom Sawyer Island and Liberty Square Riverboat

Both Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat are currently closed for refurbishment. In fact, the Rivers of America is completely dried up! The river was drained for construction and we’ve seen Cast Members working on the boat guide rails.

Empty Rivers of America

You need water to enjoy the riverboat and raft to the island! The attractions are scheduled to be closed until February 28th, 2021.
