Our Boarding Group for Rise of the Resistance Was Called Before Disney’s Hollywood Studios Had Opened!

There are many tips and tricks to securing that coveted boarding group for Rise of the Resistance.

Stormtroopers

Disney has made some tweaks to the process of grabbing a boarding pass like being able to book one from outside the parks. Well, something a little strange happened to us today after we got our boarding group!

The virtual queue for this attraction becomes available at 7AM for guests to get their boarding groups prior to Disney’s Hollywood Studios’ opening at 10AM. We did this right on time and were lucky enough to secure a spot in Group 6.

However, we got a notification saying our boarding group was called at 9:40AM — before the park had even opened!

Boarding Group Notification

There may be a possibility that your group is called prior to park opening if you’re in one of the first groups of the day. This is important to keep in mind for your planning because if you are called before park opening, you’ll have less than an hour to ride the attraction. For example, we ended up having 40 minutes from when the park opened to head over to Rise of the Resistance.

That’s a REAL Stormtrooper!

This was quite a surprise for us, but we definitely won’t turn down any chance to get on Rise of the Resistance! As always, stay tuned for updates on Disney World!

  1. My wife and I rode Rise of the Resistance in September on a trip with just the two of us. It was a week day and we were in the park before 10:00am in line for another ride. It was our first time trying to join a group, and with a bit of fumbling we still got group 10. We rode it in our first 30 minutes in the park and it was great!

Last Friday, Nov. 13 while we were on a trip with our kids, a Skyliner hop away, I woke up before 7:00am and was ready. Even knowing what I was doing this time all the boarding groups were full in 1 second. As I hit “join group” I got a message that all boarding groups were full. At 2:00pm I didn’t even get that far before getting the message.

Looking back I realized why my wife and I were so lucky was because it was probably harder for locals who work to be in the park at 10:00am. A 7:00am opening for everyone increases the competition a TON. As a former Orlando based AP holder, I would be upset if only on property guests had a shot to ride the current top ride. As someone who paid a ton of money to give my kids a great experience and couldn’t ride the number one attraction, I was pretty mad for most of the day. Tough balance for Disney. For guests, I would say if riding Rise of the Resistance is one of your major trip goals, and you have to fly cross country to get there, I would hold off on booking a trip until things get back to normal.

  2. WE GOT GROUP 1 (WHICH NEVER HAPPENS) AND I WAS SHOCKED THAT WHEN I LEFT MY HOUSE AT 9:30AM TO HEAD TO THE PARKS (ABOUT 25MIN DRIVE) THEY HAD ALREADY CALLED OUR GROUP. WE WERE RACING TO GET TO THE RIDE AND THAT’S HARD TO DO WHEN YOU GOT TO UNLOAD THE GO-GO BUGGY AND EVERYONE WALKS SLOW. HAPPILY WE MADE IT BUT IT DEFINITELY MADE THE MORNING STRESSFUL.
