Here’s What the New Security Screening and Temperature Check Process is Like at Disney World

Yesterday we reported live from the Annual Passholder Preview in Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom!

Tree of Life

Much of the health and safety procedures are similar to the screening process we saw in Disney Springs. Guests are required to take a temperature check, wear a mask, and keep a physical distance between them and other travel groups. The bag and security screenings is a process we haven’t experienced before this week.

Guests are required to take a temperature check before they go through security. The check is taken with the same touchless infrared thermometer used at Disney Springs. The device is pointed at your forehead and you are given an immediate temperature result. To give better a result, theme park guests were asked to remove hats and brush aside any hair from their foreheads.

Temperature Check

Once we got our temperature check we could head into security screening. We expected to put our electronics in a plastic bag as we did during Cast Member previews earlier this week. We were not given a bag this time and were asked to walk through the metal detector with all our bags and items. At Animal Kingdom, we were asked to take out any umbrella, and, if so, asked to hold it in front of us as we walked through.

Security

Security is checking bags with as little contact as possible. Our bag was set off by the metal detector and the security guard checked it with a metal detector wand and minimal contact. While showing our items, we were responsible to open any pockets and remove larger items to let the Security Guard see the contents.

Animal Kingdom Security

While the temperature checks are quick, it does add another step and another line to your entry process. The 6 feet markers placed along lines will also make the line seem longer. We advise that you get to the theme parks a little bit earlier than normal to allow time for the extra procedures.

Temperature Check Tents

We’ll be exploring the theme parks all week as Disney World prepares for the grand reopening to the public. Be sure to follow along with us as we update you with all the changes you might experience on your next vacation.
