It’s time to check in on two of the MANY construction projects in progress now at Epcot. You’ll recall that the park is in the throes of a multi-year project to transform Future World. (Can’t keep track of everything? You’re not alone! We’ve got what’s happening in the Epcot transformation and WHEN here!)

But for now, let’s focus on two on-going projects. Today we’re checking on Space 220, the new, immersive space-themed restaurant near Mission: Space, and on Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, the innovative coaster coming to the old Universe of Energy pavilion.
Space 220 Construction
Space 220 is expected to open this winter, but with the restaurant beginning a search for a new executive chef (yes, this close to opening — read about it here!), things are still up in the air a bit. Exterior construction is also a work in progress, but it does appear some progress is being made.

Is that go-away blue (and green) we spot? This curved wall is expected to be — on the inside of the restaurant — a massive screen with “real time” views into space so that diners will feel completely ensconced in the space station setting.

The exterior is still comprised of yellow construction materials on the left side of the restaurant (which would be area closest to Mission: Space).

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Construction
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is set to open in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary in 2021, so work here is still very much in progress.

Dark construction walls occlude all work at ground level, but we can see that roof work is continuing in earnest.

Construction materials on the roof stand at the ready. It will be interesting to see this space take shape over the next several months.

On the right side of the pavilion, the old structures have been painted (or otherwise covered in) copper. If this holds, the color scheme for Cosmic Rewind will be dramatically different than Ellen’s Energy Adventure.
