EPCOT has a brand-new version of Test Track, and yes — we waited in the full line to see what all the hype was about.

The new Test Track just opened, and we couldn’t get over there fast enough. We’re talking fresh scenes, new music, and a totally reimagined vibe that really surprised us. If you’ve been wondering whether it’s worth carving out time in your EPCOT day (and trust us, there’s a lot to choose from right now), here’s everything we experienced — and why we think it’s absolutely worth the wait.
It Feels Like a Dark Ride (In the Best Way Possible)
The first thing we noticed? The new Test Track leans heavily into that dark ride energy. You’re still in a car, and you’re still on a track, but the whole thing feels more like classic Disney storytelling now. That’s a huge shift from the previous version, which focused more on a sleek, high-tech “design your car” concept. While that was fun, this new version just feels more immersive.

From the start, you’re surrounded by sets, lighting, projections, and sound design that all work together to build the story. You’re not just zipping around — you’re traveling through different environments, each with its own look and feel. One moment you’re in a peaceful forest, and the next you’re racing through a futuristic landscape. It’s more atmospheric, more detailed, and honestly, more engaging from beginning to end.
There’s a New Scent (And We’re Obsessed)
You know Disney doesn’t play around when it comes to ride smells. The new Test Track has a custom scent that hits during one of the scenes, and it instantly reminded us of that iconic “Spaceship Earth smell” — yes, that one. It’s got that subtle, clean, futuristic scent that somehow makes everything feel more real and more Disney at the same time.

It’s little touches like this that pull the ride together. It’s not just what you see — it’s what you feel, what you hear, and yes, what you smell. Combined with a refreshed soundtrack that adds to the energy without overwhelming the scenes, it gives the ride a totally new identity. You’ll walk off humming the music (and probably craving another ride-through).
Nostalgia Without Needing to Know the Original
Now, some of us on the team never rode World of Motion — the attraction that originally sat in this spot before the first version of Test Track opened — but we’ve heard about it for years. And honestly? This update feels like it’s honoring that legacy, even if you’ve never experienced it yourself. It’s got the charm and whimsy of old-school EPCOT with a fresh coat of paint.

The storytelling is stronger now. You’re not just testing car features or designing a virtual vehicle. You’re going on a journey. It has purpose. It flows better. And it somehow manages to strike a balance between modern tech and that nostalgic Disney feel that so many people have been missing in recent years.
Was It Worth the Wait? Yes. Every Minute.
We waited in the full standby line for this one — no shortcuts, no skipping ahead — and we’re glad we did. The queue has been updated slightly, and while it’s not a complete overhaul, it moves steadily and gives you a little time to appreciate what’s coming.

If you’re planning a trip to EPCOT soon, this is 100% a ride to prioritize. You don’t have to be a thrill-seeker to enjoy it. The speed test portion is still there (and still fun), but it’s not the only thing that stands out anymore. The ride as a whole is more balanced now, more complete, and a lot more Disney.
Our Takeaway
If you loved the original Test Track, you’ll probably appreciate the nods to the past and the smoother storytelling. If you weren’t a huge fan before, this new version might win you over. Either way, it’s clear that Disney put a lot of care into making this feel like more than just an update — it’s a true reimagining. So yes, we rode the new Test Track. And yes, we’re telling everyone it’s worth your time.
