Disney World Security Has Banned 10 Popular Items

If you bring these items to Disney World, you’re gonna have a bad time…

Storm clouds in Magic Kingdom

A Disney World vacation may be PACKED with plenty of opportunities for beautiful lifelong memories, but before you visit, you should know exactly what to pack — or rather, WHAT NOT TO. While the possibilities seem endless, there are plenty of prohibited items you cannot bring with you during your visit.

While the list of prohibited items at Disney World is pretty long, there are 10 popular items that truly stand out.

Selfie Sticks

You might see selfie sticks on some roller coaster ride videos for other parks online, but you won’t see them at the Disney Parks. These camera extenders are useful for capturing group and solo shots, but they’re banned at Disney World for safety reasons.

We get it. Selfie sticks can be used as a weapon — also unintentionally. You don’t want to accidentally poke someone in the eye while waiting in line. They also could be super dangerous if they fall out of a ride vehicle. If you want a group shot, please rely on the friendly Disney PhotoPass photographers!

Balloons and Plastic Straws

While not completely banned, balloons are banned at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the water parks, ESPN Wide World of Sports, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom LodgeFor the parks with animals, this rule is primarily installed as a measure to protect the animals from possible complications.

Fortunately, you are allowed to bring your own reusable straws!

Noisemakers

This shouldn’t be too surprising, but horns, whistles, large megaphones, and artificial noise makers are strictly prohibited in the parks.

They may be fun to use in groups, but you’ll get in some real trouble for using these noisemakers in the Disney Parks. The parks are packed with enjoyable music and sounds for everyone, and it’s a good idea to respect that when visiting. Injecting your own loud sound could be disruptive.

Stroller-Wagons

Stroller-wagons may be a popular way to transport your kids, but they are strictly banned at Disney World.

EVERY kind of stroller-wagon is banned, regardless of size and material. This rule has been in place for a while to keep walkways clear and make things safer when the parks get crowded.

Any and All Smoking

Some areas of Disney World are smoke-free, so get ready to leave the vapes, cigarettes, cigars, and other smoking items at home.

Per Disney World, “the theme parks, water parks, ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, and Disney resort hotels are smoke-free environments except for designated smoking areas.” At the hotels, smoking is permitted in designated outdoor smoking areas. Smoking is not permitted in guest rooms or on balconies.” Marijuana is not allowed ANYWHERE.

Toys that Resemble Weapons

Toys that resemble guns or other realistic weapons are not allowed in Disney World.

YES BREEDLOVE!

With that said, you can still find lightsabers and plastic swords sold in the parks.

RC Toys

While you can buy adorable remote-control droids at Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you’ll have to wait until you get back to your hotel to test them out because Disney prohibits drones, remote-control toys, and other similar devices inside the parks.

Personal RC toys create logistical nightmares for park operations in addition to being tripping hazards.

Self Defense Items

While you may be used to traveling with them in your regular life, self-defense items like pepper spray, mace, and tasers are strictly prohibited.

Cosmic Rewind

These items just leave a lot of room for error. Accidentally spraying yourself or someone with pepper spray would be a total nightmare for Disney.

Glass Containers

Glass containers are also banned at Disney World theme parks — but there is an exception.

Muppet Labs glass

Small glass containers that hold things like baby food ARE ALLOWED, and you can also buy glass in the parks. Of note, glass containers ARE ALSO ALLOWED in the hotels.

Folding Chairs

While it would be nice to camp out on Main Street with a folding chair as you wait for a parade or fireworks, these items are not allowed at Disney World. Posing safety and other guest comfort issues, you won’t be allowed into the parks with folding chairs.

Magic Kingdom

Disney World is always evolving and changing — meaning this list could look different in the future. Selfie Sticks, for example, are a more recent addition to the list of prohibited items. We’ll let you know if and when changes occur.
