After Nearly 6 Months, This Magic Kingdom Ride Is FINALLY Open!

After a long refurbishment, an iconic Magic Kingdom attraction is lifting off again!

Astro Orbiter

The Astro Orbiter, which sits atop Rocket Tower Plaza and the PeopleMover Track in the center of Tomorrowland, has been closed for a massive refurbishment since this past January. Over the last 5+ months, the ride was completely removed from its perch, updated, and reinstalled, with the ride entering testing in June.

In late June 2025, just before the 4th of July holiday weekend, the Astro Orbiter OFFICIALLY reopened!

It’s back open!

The attraction is currently listed as open for the duration of the Magic Kingdom’s operating hours on Friday, June 27th…and it has a posted wait time of 20 minutes at the time of writing.

Currently, the attraction does not list any further operating hours through the rest of June or July. However, theme park reporter Scott Gustin has confirmed that the attraction is officially reopened, and that matches with what we saw today!

Riders are onboard!

The current incarnation of the Astro Orbiter was first installed in Tomorrowland in 1994 during a larger-scale refurbishment of Tomorrowland. Prior to that, a previous, more realistically themed version of the attraction, known as the Star Jets, was the centerpiece of the land beginning in 1974.

After nearly half a year under refurbishment, the Astro Orbiter is back flying over the skies of Tomorrowland at Walt Disney World. Stay tuned to AllEars for more updates on the Magic Kingdom!
