NEW Disney Permit Hints at CHANGES Coming to a Popular EPCOT Ride

The EPCOT Transformation is nearing completion, but that doesn’t mean new projects aren’t still popping up around Disney World.

New restaurants are on the way, exciting hotel updates are coming soon, and we’re getting ready to welcome some brand-new rides. Test Track is being reimagined soon and it looks like another EPCOT ride might be getting an update before too long as well!

We search permits recently filed by Disney around the parks and hotels to get an idea of what sort of projects might be coming up in Disney World — and we spotted something exciting at EPCOT! A new permit has been filed for construction at Journey Into Imagination with Figment in the Imagination Pavilion.

We’re a bit surprised because Disney hasn’t announced any sort of refurbishments or closures for this ride, though that doesn’t mean one isn’t coming soon. The address on the permit matches up with the Imagination Pavilion, so it’s possible that the work isn’t for the ride itself — but we don’t think that’s the case.

It’s a “general construction” permit, meaning the work could be something huge or something relatively insignificant, but based on the expiration date of the document we’re thinking it’ll probably be something major.

In most cases, a permit automatically expires one year from the date it was filed — but Disney specified a November 28th expiration date for this project.

That doesn’t mean the construction will last that long, but it means that Disney expects the work to take longer than just one year. As of now, no official announcements have been made about what this construction might be for, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for updates.
