Disney World’s many construction projects continue, and while some of them we have end dates in sight for, such as Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin (which has soft opened early), and most recently, Crew’s Cup Lounge, others we’re still watching and waiting for any and all updates.

That includes the massive new lands coming to Magic Kingdom, Villains Land, and Piston Peak. While Villains Land is located behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, so it’s difficult to see right now (but hopefully we’ll get a peek once Big Thunder reopens), the construction zone for Piston Peak is something you can walk right past. Walls get in your way nearly everywhere you stand, but as we stood in a particular spot the other day, we were able to get a pretty good look at what’s going on!
While we were excited to see that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad was testing, don’t get us wrong, we realized the angle we were standing at also gave us a great look at a bit of what’s going on inside the Piston Peak construction zone. We can now see that there’s a large crane inside the construction site, and it appears to be helping to build a sort of wall that’s currently facing Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. We know, it’s a little hard to tell if the crane is in front of the construction walls, or behind it, but it is indeed inside (otherwise it’d be sitting out in the middle of a walkway!).

A little more over to the right hand side, we noticed a white truck, and more construction materials easily in view. This tells us that this section of the land is slightly raised, allowing us to see it from this angle. It’s possible that other parts of the land (further over to the right, closer to Haunted Mansion) are lower, which would explain why we can’t see what’s going on behind the walls, no matter what angle we’re at.

Once Big Thunder Mountain Railroad reopens, however, things will MAJORLY change, because if you’re in line or on the ride itself, we’ll be able to have a great vantage point to see into the area behind the walls. That means with ONE ride reopening, we could be able to see both Piston Peak construction AND Villains Land construction. So, yes, you’ll see us in line for the ride a lot when it reopens in May!
