In late January, the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District’s Board of Supervisors unanimously approved an initial $6.75 million budget for an electrical system expansion at the Magic Kingdom tied to the infrastructure development of the two new lands.

Passed during a late January meeting, the board established an initial budget of $6,750,000 “for the North Service Area Electrical System Extension, consisting of allowances for RCES design/support services ($1,000,000), professional services ($750,000), and Owner Furnished Materials ($5,000,000), all including 10% contingency for unforeseen issues; and authorize the District Administrator to execute subsequent contracts for such allowances, subject to individual procurement reviews.”

In layman’s terms, this is a preliminary budget to add new underground electric cables, protective switches, pad-mounted transformers, and other elements that will power the Magic Kingdom’s two upcoming lands.

Construction is underway on Piston Peak, the Cars-themed sub-land within the Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland, which will occupy the land that was once home to the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island.

The new area set within the Pixar franchise is going to be themed as “an awe-inspiring wilderness filled with towering trees, snowcapped mountains, breathtaking waterfalls, roaring rivers, and impressive geysers,” with two attractions, the headliner being an off-road racing-themed E-Ticket.

Land-clearing is also underway in a previously unused backstage area “beyond” Big Thunder Mountain for Villains Land, which will be “home to the Disney Villains we know and loathe from our favorite Walt Disney Animation Studios classic films.”

Originally, Disney said plans for the land included “two major attractions, dining, and shopping all on an incredibly twisted grand scale.” However, recent rumors suggest that plans for the land may be evolving and growing. Whatever truth there may be to that, infrastructure work in the area remains ongoing.
