Disney’s most recent construction permit hints that work is coming to the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Hollywood Studios.

The newest permit, filed by Disney with Orange County on the 17th, calls for “General Construction” on the structure.
While “General Construction” usually indicates maintenance or other infrastructure upkeep, the presence of MLC Theming Inc., a firm Disney has used for theming and other on-stage work in the past, as the contractor of record on the permit does indicate that there may be at least some guest-facing changes or improvements coming to the attraction.

As of late March 2026, Disney has yet to announce any official details on any work or closure coming to the Tower. The ride, first opened in 1994, was the first installation of the Tower of Terror at a Disney park, and remains unique as the only Tower of Terror to feature the “fifth dimension” sequence.

Currently, there are 4 operating Tower of Terror-style attractions in the world, though only the Hollywood Studios and Disney Adventure World (previously known as Walt Disney Studios Paris) versions maintain the Twilight Zone theme.

The California Adventure version of the attraction was transformed into Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout just about a decade ago, while the Tokyo DisneySea version has told a unique story revolving around fictional S.E.A. member Harrison Hightower III since it opened back in 2006.

A new Disney construction permit hints at work coming to Disney World’s Tower of Terror, though the company has yet to confirm any work or potential guest-facing changes coming to the classic Hollywood Studios attraction. Stay tuned to AllEars for more on this potential refurbishment.
