The Rules About Shoes at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Your shoe choice can make or break your entire Hollywood Studios experience.

We know it sounds dramatic, but trust us when we say that what you put on your feet is one of the most important decisions you’ll make before heading to the parks. If you want to avoid painful blisters, soggy socks, and general misery during your day at Hollywood Studios, these are the shoe “rules” you need to follow.

Ditch the Flip Flops and Slides

Okay, so technically Disney doesn’t require you to wear closed-toe shoes to enter Hollywood Studios. You CAN wear your flip flops or slides if you really want to. Should you, though? Maybe not.

Those breezy sandals might be perfect for hanging out by the resort pool, but they’re going to betray you the second you start walking around the park. Think about it: you’re going to be on your feet for hours, walking from attraction to attraction, standing in queue after queue, and dealing with Florida’s intense heat and humidity.

Flip flops just don’t provide the arch support or cushioning you need for that kind of activity. Your feet will start hurting way sooner than they should, and by midday, you’ll be miserable. We’ve seen it happen countless times. Save yourself the pain and go with closed-toe shoes that actually support your feet properly.

Break In Your Shoes BEFORE Your Trip

This one should go without saying, but we still see people making this mistake all the time. Do NOT show up to Hollywood Studios wearing brand-new shoes that you’ve never worn before.

We get the temptation to buy a fresh pair of sneakers specifically for your Disney trip. You want something clean and comfortable for all those photos, right? But here’s the thing: even the most comfortable-looking shoes need to be broken in, and a day at the parks is NOT the time to do it.

Blisters are practically guaranteed if you’re wearing shoes for the first time during a full park day. And once you get blisters, your whole day becomes about managing the pain instead of enjoying the attractions. That’s not what you paid all that money for.

Instead, buy your shoes at least a few weeks before your trip and wear them around your house, on walks around your neighborhood, basically anywhere you can to get them molded to your feet. Your feet will thank you when you’re standing in line for Tower of Terror.

Central Florida Weather Means Your Shoes Need to Handle Rain

If you’ve never been to Florida before, here’s something you need to know: it rains. A lot. Like, almost every single afternoon during certain times of the year. And when it rains in Central Florida, it REALLY rains.

This means your shoe choice needs to account for potentially wet conditions. You don’t want to end up with shoes that turn into sponges the second they get wet, leaving you walking around with soggy feet for hours. Not only is that uncomfortable, but wet shoes can also lead to blisters even faster than new shoes can.

Beyond just comfort, you also need to think about traction. When those Florida downpours hit, the pavement gets slick fast. Shoes with a good grip are going to keep you from slipping and sliding around, which is especially important when you’re rushing to get to your next Lightning Lane reservation or trying to snag a spot for Fantasmic.

We usually recommend athletic shoes or sneakers with good tread that can handle getting a little wet without completely falling apart. Bonus points if they dry relatively quickly, too.
