Things People Do That Cause Outrage in Disney World

Disney World is the Most Magical Place on Earth… well, sometimes.

We go to Disney World every day and have noticed that sometimes, other visitors can really affect the quality of your trip. Everyone deserves to have a magical trip, but sometimes, inconsiderate things that other visitors do can affect your day in the parks. We compiled a list of four things that always happen when we visit that sometimes cause us outrage.

Have you ever been to Disney World and someone did not respect your personal space? Or did someone talk super loudly during a ride? We have all been there, and these are four things that other people do that cause outrage at Disney World.

When People Cut In Line

Picture this: You’re waiting in line for a popular attraction like Rise of the Resistance in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and you’ve been in the queue for over an hour when suddenly, a family tries to squeeze by you.

Rise of the Resistance

We’ve heard all the excuses before, and sometimes they’re valid. It’s totally understandable to have to leave the line to use the restroom, or sometimes, a person utilizing the DAS system will have to rejoin their party in line, and that is totally okay.

Rise of the Resistance Line

What we are talking about are the large families who claim that someone is holding their spot in line or the people who just start pushing to make their way to the front. It can be really frustrating to see people cut when you’ve done the right thing and waited.

In this case, as frustrating as it may be and as TEMPTING as it may be, it’s not the best move to cause a scene and start yelling. Now, if there’s a Cast Member nearby and you can inform them of the situation, that’s often the best thing to do, because Disney doesn’t want people skipping the lines either. You could also attempt to block the people from moving past you, but again, that may be more trouble than it’s worth.

When People Use Flash on Dark Rides

We totally understand that you may want to remember your trip by taking as many photos as possible. Hey, we get it! We take tons of photos around Disney World every day. The problem is when people use flash on an attraction, especially a dark ride.

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh

While you wait in line for an attraction, the speaker repeats that flash photography is not allowed, yet people still ignore this, and we see flashes going off ALL THE TIME when we’re on attractions like Haunted Mansion, Under The Sea — Journey of the Little Mermaid, Pirates of the Caribbean, etc.

Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid

Having flash go off on rides can really ruin the experience for others who are also trying to remember their trip. Now, we’ve all been there when our flash accidentally goes off, but as a good rule of thumb, make sure your flash is off before you start to film or take pictures. You can do so by quickly checking the icon on your camera app, but if you’re newer to using a phone, or just recently got a new one, we recommend making sure you know how to check this well BEFORE you begin using the camera.

When People Don’t Respect Your Personal Space

There are many times when you can be shoulder-to-shoulder with people at Disney World. This could be at a popular show like Fantasmic! in Hollywood Studios or on Main Street during Happily Ever After. While these situations are never ideal, they are expected.

Happily Ever After

But there are other times when people don’t regard personal space. When a child continuously decides to kick the back of a seat on a ride or someone is swinging their backpack around, it can be annoying for those around them. Accidents do happen, but as a rule of thumb, try to give people a little bit of space.

Toy Story Land Crowds

When you’re in line, leave 2-3 steps of room between yourself and the party in front of you, and attempt to keep your children back as well. No one wants to feel even MORE claustrophobic than they already do in small sections of Disney world lines, so give people a bit of space while also keeping up with the party in front of you!

When People Litter

Disney World custodial Cast Members work so hard to keep the parks clean and looking pristine. It can be frustrating to watch someone throw their trash on the ground instead of walking to the nearest trash can.

It is a well-known piece of Disney trivia that Walt Disney figured that people would drop their trash after about 30 steps. So, to combat trash being tossed on the ground, trash cans were placed every 30 feet to help keep trash off the ground. There’s no section of the park where you won’t be able to find a trash can nearby, and if for some reason you are struggling to find one, please ask a Cast Member instead of just throwing your trash on the ground

Well, You Certainly Don’t See This in EPCOT Every Day!

Everyone deserves to enjoy their visit to Disney World, and out of courtesy to others, try not to be that person. As we said, though, accidents, mistakes, and emergencies do happen, and in some cases, these things that cause others outrage do have their reasoning behind them.

  1. Of all the annoyances I have experienced at WDW, the one I found most irritating were people who needed mobility scooters who abused using them. One time a woman ran over my foot in line at The Haunted Mansion. She laughed after I said “Ow” as she rode away. And I was staying at the Beach Club and a person needing a scooter allowed her grandchildren to ride around on it in the halls, hitting the walls and pillars and such, doing damage to the place.

  2. There’s also nothing like having a stroller rammed into the back of your legs by someone
not paying any attention at all. An individual mistake is one thing while multiple
hits by one person is another thing.

  3. The other annoying thing we kept coming across a few weeks ago was people FaceTiming during rides to show their family that didn’t make the trip. It was super rude to interrupt all of our experiences with the loud conversations. The one that stands out was not being able to hear anything on the safari because of a rude family doing this.

  4. Another outrageous behavior: blocking the view of others around you. This can take the form of not removing hats or Mickey ears during a show like Philharmagic, or putting a child on your shoulders during fireworks. Often, people have waited an hour to secure a prime viewing spot, only to have it ruined by thoughtless guests.
