If you haven’t heard the news already, Disney’s Hollywood Studios is about to get ANOTHER major overhaul. Muppets Courtyard has already closed to make way for the new Monsters, Inc. Land. Now, Disney has recently announced that Animation Courtyard will close on September 25, 2025, to make way for a new experience called “The Magic of Disney Animation.”

This new experience will give the Animation Courtyard a facelift and replace Star Wars: Launch Bay with a building that mirrors the Walt Disney Animation Studios in California. It will even be complete with Mickey’s Sorcerer Hat on top! However, we noticed that amidst this announcement, it appears Disney has quietly closed a Hollywood Studios attraction for good.
If you have kiddos, adore the Disney Junior characters, or just love a place for some great AC, you might know about the “Disney Jr. Play and Dance” which is located in Animation Courtyard. It is currently replaced by “Get Animated!” as part of Cool Kid Summer at Disney World. Cool Kid Summer is happening now through September 1st, and Animation Courtyard isn’t expected to close until September 25th.

So, on first glance, one might think that “Disney Jr. Play and Dance” would return between the end of Cool Kid Summer until Animation Courtyard closes down. However, according to the Disney World website, “Get Animated!” will be running at the location until September 24th. That likely means that we won’t be able to see “Disney Jr. Play and Dance!” again.

While it does make sense that Disney wouldn’t switch up the shows for the short time between the end of Cool Kid Summer and the closure of Animation Courtyard, we are a bit sad we didn’t get to see one last show of “Disney Jr. Play and Dance!” You can still dance with lots of Disney Junior characters during “Get Animated!” though and enjoy some lovely air conditioning.

The new experience, “The Magic of Disney Animation” is heavily inspired by the Once Upon a Studio short film. It will be a “place where kids and kids at heart can laugh, draw, dream, and explore animated new experiences.” Portraits inside will come to life, and we will even be able to learn how to draw our very own character sketch. Additionally, there will be a “Drawn to Wonderland” playground inspired by Alice in Wonderland that features oversized flowers, a Mad Tea Party playset, musical instruments, and more. There will also be lots of characters to meet!
