Preparations are being made for the retheme of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Last year, we learned that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster’s current Aerosmith theming and storyline will soon be replaced with a new version featuring the Muppets, including Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. The current version of the ride will remain open through 2025, with the new version debuting in 2026, but Disney is already preparing for the upcoming work on the attraction.
Earlier this month, Muppets Courtyard officially closed in Hollywood Studios, including the loss of both Muppet*Vision 3D and PizzeRizzo. And even though it was a sad day for Muppets fans everywhere, the characters won’t be gone from the park forever. Disney announced that the rethemed Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster starring the Muppets will make its debut in 2026.

Recently, we spotted a permit that suggests prep work for the retheming may be underway, even though the current version of the ride will remain open through 2025.

Walt Disney Imagineering has filed a new Notice of Commencement for the trailer located just outside Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster. The permit is for general construction, and while the trailer itself is not new, the permit filing suggests that Imagineering may be prepping the space for upcoming work on the retheming.

While we’re still waiting for specifics on what we can expect with the new version of the ride, Disney previously said, “We know so many of you share our love for The Muppets and know their energy will be a perfect fit for this coaster. Plus, as the first Disney ride ever to feature The Muppets, there’s sure to be laughter, screams and new tunes for this attraction for fans to enjoy throughout the adventure and plenty of Muppets-themed merchandise on Sunset Boulevard!”

We’ll continue to be on the lookout for more updates about the Muppets takeover of this iconic ride, so stay tuned to AllEars for the latest news!

It’s to bad I can’t take my 5 year old on it to see the muppets.
In short, no. Hollywood only has one music themed attraction and Muppets music is beloved but not strong enough to attract pop music fans and this is a lame bit of throw-them-a-bone to fans. Muppetvision 3D was Jim Henson’s last big project and last time he voiced Kermit before he died. Wrecking an iconic last work by an inspirational creative master can’t be replaced by throwing in some tech and decoration onto a totally different thing he never touched.
