These 4 Maps Show the Fate of Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Disney’s Hollywood Studios has been through so many identity changes that even the NAME isn’t the same as it was when the park opened. This park loves to evolve; can’t fault it for that!

But if you thought the days of drastic change were behind this old park, you’d be VERY wrong. There are all kinds of new attractions and experiences coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, so we went ahead and made some maps to show you exactly where things are changing.

While some parks, like Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom, look pretty similar to how they looked when they first opened, Disney’s Hollywood Studios (formerly Disney-MGM Studios) has added a LOT of new lands, characters, and attractions.

This park has seen several new additions in the past few years, including Toy Story Land and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, but even MORE is on the way! Soon, the park will be home to two new stage shows, a Muppets overlay on Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, and a brand-new land dedicated to Monsters, Inc.

A new land themed to Pixar Animation Studios’ “Monsters, Inc.” is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Taking place after the events of the film, Monstropolis need humans’ laughter to power the city. Guests can even ride on a door like Mike and Sully in the iconic scene from the film with Disney’s first-ever suspended coaster.

So, what’s all this gonna look like? Well, let’s map it out! Below is a map of Grand Avenue in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Currently, this section of the park is just after the Star Tours attraction and just before Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. But eventually, Disney will transform the yellow part of the map into a NEW Monsters, INC. Land!

Yes, the future Monsters, INC. Land will replace the fan-favorite Muppets Courtyard. The area will undergo a phased closure starting with Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano on May 11th, 2025. The Italian table service restaurant will be closing its doors with the last day to dine on May 10th, 2025.

Then, the second phase of the closure will include PizzeRizzo and Muppet*Vision 3D on June 7th. By June 8th, we can expect the construction walls to be up, blocking off the entire courtyard.

When this section of the park opens, the area will be completely transformed. Based on Disney’s concept art (and assuming the layout doesn’t change between now and when the land opens), we’re expecting the main attraction (a suspended coaster) to live in the back of the land.

This attraction will be Disney’s very first EVER suspended roller coaster! You will sit in your seat, and your legs will dangle off the ground as the track is above you. Disney teased that “You’ll be able to see the sights, hear the laughs, and zoom through the building just like James P. Sullivan (a.k.a. Sulley) and Mike Wazowski — via a door!”

Now, that leads us to announcement #2, because while the Muppet Courtyard is getting demolished, the Muppets are moving right along to Sunset Boulevard.

That’s because the Muppets will take over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. We don’t have a closing date for the current attraction starring Aerosmith yet, but this map shows what this area will eventually look like. And yes, not one, but TWO changes are hitting this part of the park. There’s a new Villains Show, too!

Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After is a new stage show in the theater previously home to Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy on Sunset Boulevard. The show starts performances on May 27th, 2025, and you can listen to a little preview of the music below.

That’s not the only new show we’ll be watching in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, though! Here’s a map of ANOTHER section of the park where a newly created Little Mermaid show lives. After a five-year hiatus, “Voyage of the Little Mermaid” has been transformed into a new live show — “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure” that debuts on May 27th at the Animation Courtyard Theater!

As you can see, we also highlighted two big buildings nearby — fans have long speculated that Disney will retheme this section of the park, though nothing is confirmed at this time.

Whew! By the time all this construction is over, the park will be practically unrecognizable to fans who haven’t visited the park in a while.
