Disney World has officially rolled out a new way to skip the lines at your favorite attractions in the parks, but it doesn’t come cheap.
Lightning Lane Premier Pass debuted on October 30th, 2024, and each pass costs several hundred dollars per person. With this pass, you get access to the Lightning Lane once per attraction in a park. But at such a steep price, who is this $400 pass really for?
Lightning Lane Premier Pass is available to Disney World hotel guests and allows a one-time entry into each Lightning Lane attraction in a single theme park per day. The main benefit of Premier Pass — and what sets it apart from Multi Pass and Single Pass — is that you don’t have to schedule a time to ride an attraction. Simply head to the ride, scan in, and enjoy.
But, Lightning Lane Premier Pass costs a pretty penny. As of December 2024, the pricing for Premier Pass was as follows:
- Magic Kingdom: $329 to $449 per person, plus tax
- EPCOT: $169 to $249 per person, plus tax
- Disney’s Hollywood Studios: $269 to $349 per person, plus tax
- Disney’s Animal Kingdom: $129 to $199 per person, plus tax
So, with the price tag being that high, who is this pass really for?
Let’s start with the fact that Disney doesn’t really want you to buy this pass — that’s essentially why it’s priced so high. Not only that, but the fact that it’s only available to hotel guests and in limited quantities adds to the exclusivity. Even if you’re staying at a Disney World hotel, you’re not guaranteed to be able to buy Premier Pass.
Disney is doing this intentionally to limit the number of people who feel the need to buy the new pass. And, since Multi Pass and Single Pass are still available options and are priced much more “reasonably” for most people, Disney isn’t making the expensive Premier Pass the only option.
Because of this, Multi and Single Pass both appear to be much cheaper options in comparison, making parkgoers feel like they’re still getting a good value out of the service despite potentially not wanting to shell out the extra dough otherwise.
Premier Pass is also a cheaper alternative to Disney World VIP Tours. With these tours, a VIP Tour Guide Cast Member will escort you and your group around the parks and through all the Lightning Lane rides you could possibly want. But, VIP Tours are pricey and often only feel like a decent value if there are enough people in your party to offset the costs a bit.
But, with Premier Pass, you still get one of the biggest perks of a VIP Tour without paying for the entire experience. This new option is definitely a luxury offering and not one that Disney expects many people to buy (though it did sell out multiple times over Thanksgiving week).
