4 Obscure Rules You Didn’t Know About the Disney World Monorail

Do you have a favorite mode of transportation at Disney World?

EPCOT

You’ve got a lot of choices like the OG Disney World bus system, boats, the Skyliner, and the Monorail to name a few. Now, if you’re taking a trip to Disney World soon and will be riding on the Monorail, there are some obscure rules you need to know about before you hop on!

As we were saying, there are a couple of obscure rules that you might not have known about the Disney World monorail, so let’s dive right in!

Common Courtesy Goes a Long Way

We know that after a long day of walking around the parks, you’re hot, tired, and the only thing on your mind is grabbing that seat as soon as you get on board. We’ve all been there. But just as a reminder of a little common courtesy, if you’re physically able, it’s nice when you can offer your seat to someone who may need it more.

Inside the monorail

Think about older guests, parents juggling kids, or someone with an obvious injury, like a walking boot or crutches. Even if they don’t ask, a kind gesture lilke that can go a long way in spreading the Disney magic.

Also, remember that not all disabilities are visible, so no pressure if you need to sit for your own health reasons! But if you are able to stand, making someone else’s journey a little more comfortable is always appreciated.

Know Your Stop Ahead of Time

We’ve all experienced the monorail mad dash when it’s time to exit. Now, at the end of a long Disney World day, the last thing you want is to be that person  who’s awkwardly stuck behind a sea of other tired park-goers as your stop arrives. It’s smart to have a mental map of when your stop is coming up, especially when the monorail is crowded.

Monorail

If you’re staying at a monorail resort, like the Polynesian Village or the Contemporary, make sure you’re ready to go when your stop is approaching. This way, you can smoothly exit without having to push through the crowd last minute.

The Express Monorail (Positioning is Key)

If you’re headed to Magic Kingdom and trying to board the express monorail, keep in mind that where you board affects your walk to the park. Picture this: When you’re about to board the monorail at the Transportation and Ticket Center and you’re facing the monorail, the cars to the right will leave you closer to the Magic Kingdom entrance, while the cars to the left will drop you off a bit further from the gates.

So, if you want to maximize efficiency (because every extra step counts when you’ve already walked 15,000+), aim for the cars on the right side for a slightly shorter post-monorail walk. You’ll thank me later, especially if you’re racing to rope drop or trying to beat the crowd at the end of the night.

The Doors Are Not Your Friend

We’ve all heard that polite voice over the monorail intercom reminding us to “Please stand clear of the doors,” but as a reminder, don’t lean on them either.

Monorail

Yes, after a long day of trekking through Magic Kingdom or EPCOT, it can be tempting to slump against anything resembling a surface, but leaning on the doors can cause some safety issues. Plus, nobody wants to be the person who causes the monorail to stop because the doors won’t close properly.

Monorail

So, when that voice reminds you to stand clear, take it seriously, and give the doors a little space.
