You may not think that August is the prime time to head to Disney World, but there are two big reasons why every Disney adult is booking a trip to EPCOT this August.

While it will be a hot time to be in the most magical place on Earth, these two reasons are sure to make EPCOT very popular in August!
First of all, Disney fans are making plans to experience Spaceship Earth at least one more time before it closes for routine refurbishment on August 25th, 2025. This is not expected to be a grand overhaul of the attraction, just a routine refurbishment. However, Spaceship Earth isn’t expected to reopen until later in the year, so this could be the last chance to squeeze in one more ride for the next few months.

Secondly, the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival officially kicks off on August 28th, 2025. While the festival runs through November 22nd, it is always fun to attend the festival on opening weekend. You gotta maximize the time to dine your way through the booths, check out the bands, and take part in the activities.

Unfortunately, Disney didn’t throw us any bones when planning the closure of Spaceship Earth and the opening of the Food & Wine Festival. Spaceship Earth will be closed beginning August 25th, while the Food & Wine Festival doesn’t start until August 28th. Here’s our strategy, though. Just plan for an extended Disney World trip so you can knock both things out and have plenty of time to enjoy everything else at Disney World.

Just make sure you are in EPCOT no later than August 24th, as that is the last day of operation for Spaceship Earth. The closure begins on August 25th, so you won’t be able to ride the attraction that day. Then you can hang out at Disney World for a few days and then catch the opening of Food & Wine on August 28th. At that point, you may as well stick around for a bit longer and enjoy the festival for multiple days, right?

Spaceship Earth isn’t the only attraction closing in August! Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin in Magic Kingdom will be closing on August 4th, 2025. Buzz Lightyear’s will be getting some upgrades including a new ride scene, a new character, updated targets, and updated ride vehicles. When you add that closure onto the list, you may as well just make Disney World your home for the month of August!
