Unexpected downtime on a ride or attraction in Disney World is fairly common on a daily basis. For one reason or another, a ride may need to close temporarily to address any mechanical issues.

When we visited Magic Kingdom today, we noticed that not only was one of the most popular rides evacuated, but so was its adjoining gift shop!
Space Mountain and its neighboring shop, Tomorrowland Light & Power Co., were both evacuated this afternoon.

Not only was the ride evacuated, but the entire queue was emptied out as well. Guests were also asked to leave the shop that shares its building with Space Mountain.

When we spoke with a Cast Member about the issue, we were told that it could take at least two hours before the ride and shop are back open again. We weren’t given an exact reason as to why the evacuation had taken place.

If you’re in the park today, be aware that this area may be unavailable for a little while longer! We’ll keep an eye on Space Mountain to see if and when it comes back up today!

I’m curious. Are the waiting times bad since it’s 35% capacity? I would think it would be a lot less crowded in the parks right? We go April 11th-15th. We drove down last week from Mississippi and couldn’t get tickets but stayed at the Dolphin and went to Disney Springs. It was extremely crowded.
Last Monday, we were evacuated off of The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, right as we were going into the “rain” scene. We had to be rescued from our hunny pots. Lol. Got a Fastpass though and we used it for Splash Mountain. We did go back on Winnie later too!
Seems like this was a fire alarm.
In many Disney attractions, if a smoke detector activates, it causes a silent alarm where orange strobes near the entrance and loading area flash. After a few minutes, the main signals activate. If a second smoke detector activates, the main signals activate immediately. The sequence is only for smoke detectors – if the alarm is activated in any other way (e.g. a manual pull station), the main signals activate immediately.
In all other buildings (e.g. standalone shops/restaurants, resorts, etc…), there are no orange strobes, and any activation causes the main signals to sound immediately.
I was evacuated off Splash Mountain in January! It was actually pretty great cause I got to experience the entire ride until right before getting off and then it broke down. I sat around for about 10 minutes before they evacuated me and then they gave me a Fastpass, something very rare these days! Waiting around for 10 minutes was worth it, as I ended up skipping the entire line for Thunder.
