NEWS: Permits Filed for Several Theater Locations in Disney’s Hollywood Studios

There’s a lot of construction and refurbishment going on all over Disney World.

A number of things are going on in EPCOT as part of that park’s transformation, several hotel pools are being drained and refurbished, and of course we’ve still got attractions like Tron in the works. Recently, Disney has also been filing some permits regarding upcoming work. Today, we noticed that quite a few permits for work on several theater areas in Disney’s Hollywood Studios have been filed.

What we’re looking at here are a series of Notices of Commencement. A notice of commencement generally notes that a construction project is set to begin.

First, we spotted a notice of Commencement has been filed at the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular theater. This is the theater right near Echo Lake. The space currently serves as a Relaxation Station for guests to remove their masks.

The notice for the theater says that the improvement being done as “provide labor, material and/or electrical for construction.” That doesn’t exactly give us a lot of information. But, it looks like some general improvements or construction may be taking place here.

Three permits have been filed for the area where Fantasmic! takes place including the addresses coded to the Fantasmic! Show Island, and two behind-the-scenes support trailers for Fantasmic!. Again, they only provide general descriptions like “provide labor, material and/or electrical for construction.” So, it’s not entirely clear what is taking place. But, it looks like some construction may be taking place there soon.

At the moment, performances of Fantasmic! are not taking place. In fact, we’ve seen several photos in the last few months showing that the water area there has been totally drained.

None of these permits really provide any direct insight in terms of what is being done there. But, it looks like some general upkeep could be taking place at these theaters in Disney’s Hollywood Studios — neither of which are currently being used for performances. This work doesn’t necessarily mean that any of these shows will be coming back right now (and Disney’s certainly hasn’t announced anything to that effect yet).

It also doesn’t look like anything MAJOR is taking place in terms of construction, at least as far as we can tell from these permits. But, it’s worth noting that these Notices of Commencement were in fact filed and some general upkeep looks like it’ll be taking place there soon.

We’ll keep an eye out for more updates and let you know what we see.
