REVIEW: It’s Easy To See Why Disney Adults Keep This Nostalgic Restaurant on Repeat

If nostalgia is your middle name, we’ve got the PERFECT Disney World restaurant for you!

Come join us!

Here at AllEars, we know all the ins and outs of Disney World restaurants — including where you should definitely eat, and where you should skip. We recently stopped by Beaches and Cream Soda Shop at Disney’s Beach Club Resort and are bringing you our FULL review!

Background

This restaurant is a bonafide 1950’s type malt shop serving burgers, hot dogs, soups, grilled cheese, and of course yummy ice cream treats. It’s on the smaller side indoors and at times a bit noisy, but fun.

Beaches and Cream Soda Shop

Here’s what you need to know about dining at this restaurant.

Atmosphere

As you arrive to the restaurant you’ll be greeted by a host stand where you’ll check in for your reservation. Once your table is ready, the host will lead you through the doors and into the dining room.

Step right in!

Immediately it’s like you’re transported back in time to a simpler decade filled with good friends, great music, and hefty portioned eats.

Seating

As you find your way to your table, you’ll walk by several art pieces along the walls depicting some of our favorite Disney pals enjoying a meal or dessert inside a similar soda shop of their own!

Love the artwork!

The restaurant offers several booth seating areas as well as standalone tables and chairs.

Booths

You’ll find the restaurant’s bar in the back next to the kitchen where (if you’re paying attention), you’ll find the Cast Members hard at work preparing your dishes and sweet treats!

Bar

Oh, did we mention there’s even a lit up jukebox sitting in the corner? Yeah, it’s pretty great!

Jukebox

For those who might prefer more space or a less bustling dining room, there are a few small tables and chairs outside Beaches and Cream Soda Shop.

Some of the seating available

There’s even a To-Go window that serves up a selection of the restaurant’s most requested ice cream treats and signature milkshakes. If you’re lucky,  you might even be able to catch a seasonal flavor depending on the time of year you’re visiting.

Beaches & Cream To-Go Window

It also makes for a great option for those who weren’t able to snag a reservation but still wanted to try out one of Beaches and Cream’s iconic desserts.

But enough about that, what are we eating?!

Food & Drinks

First up, we grabbed the Cheddar-Bacon-Ranch Chicken Sandwich for $21. This is made with with Sautéed Onion, Lettuce, and Tomato on a Multigrain Bun served with choice of Potato Tots, French Fries, or Fresh Fruit. For this review though, we opted for fries.

Cheddar Bacon Ranch Chicken Sandwich

We expected to be in for a whirlwind of flavor when this dish was brought to our table. In fact, it was so juicy we even had a spot to clean up on our table from where its grease had dripped down around the edges of the sandwich…but, that was a ruse it seems.

The other side

While the sandwich was fairly straightforward and had juicier bites of chicken, it was barely seasoned. It’s also served with a multi-grain bun to the sandwich over your standard white bread bun which gave it some extra personality. The toppings also included something of a thin, almost ranch-tasting sauce that gave the chicken what flavor it did have but we would have LOVED to have had more on the sandwich without asking for more.

Inside of the chicken sandwich

All of that to say, that it’s a great, run-of-the-mill sandwich that’s not got a ton of frills to it and won’t break the bank. If you’re looking for one of the safer options on the menu that’s not packed with spices, this could be a great contender.

We also picked up the French Dip Sandwich for $22. This dish is made of a toasted French roll served with thinly sliced roast beef, Swiss cheese, and au jus topped with crispy-fried onions served with choice of Potato Tots, French Fries, or Fresh Fruit. Again we opted for the potato tots with this dish.

French Dip

This sandwich was better than we expected! It’s slightly toasted on the outside and buttered in a French baguette filled with thinly sliced roast beef and melted Swiss cheese that melds it all together into one bite. It also contained scattered crispy-fried onions but they didn’t do much for the flavor of the sandwich.

Just the sandwich

They started off as a nice crunch while the sandwich was fresh but as we started using the au jus dip to coat our bites, the crispy bites turned more soggy as they sat on the sandwich.

See the crispy onions

The potato tots are your standard potato barrels or tots. Nothing too fancy but they don’t have to be. They’re soft on the inside. warm to the bite, and they even have that crispy crunch to them when you start to dig into them. Yeah, they were a great accompaniment to the French Dip.

Tots

Overall, it was a solid sandwich from this shop! While it wasn’t anything life-changing, it was a solid enough eat for those looking to get a filling meal without spending too much or after a few hours in the nearby pool.

For dessert, we picked up the No Way Jose! This shining star is a Peanut Butter and Hot Fudge delight featuring Chocolate and Vanilla Ice Cream, Peanut Butter and Chocolate Morsels, Whipped Cream, and a Cherry which costs $13.50.

No Way Jose

This sundae is DEEP and served to your table in a huge goblet which makes its size quite deceiving. Honestly, this thing is easily sharable between two people but for those up for the challenge, we found it to be a worthy opponent!

It’s HUGE

It was fantastic though, especially if you’re a peanut butter lover! It’s a fully packed sundae chocked full to the brim with all of the fixings and quite honestly, it’s been a favorite of ours for years.

We love a good sundae

If you find yourself literally scraping the sides of the glass and feeling like you excavating past a thick layer of whipped cream, you’re on the right track with this one! It also didn’t melt near as fast as we anticipated it to — which was nice because it gave us enough time to savor each bite without having to scarf it down in a rush.

Magic or Tragic?

This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if…

  • You’re looking for a safe bet for a meal at Disney World. If you’ve got multiple taste palates to please or you’ve got some pickier eaters in your group (or yourself) this is a middle of the road restaurant that doesn’t seem to miss often.
  • You’re looking for some of the most iconic melty treats Disney World has to offer. If you’re not impressed by a standard ice cream cone or Mickey ice cream bar in the parks, these desserts will have you coming back for more!
  • Nostalgia is your vibe! If you’re looking for a recreation of an older 1950’s style malt shop, this is truly like stepping back in time to enjoy a simple and fun meal.

You should skip this Disney World spot if…

  • Dessert HAS to be your true gain here. This place is mostly known for its desserts so if you’re not into a fun dessert after you’ve finished off your meal, you might do better somewhere that’s not so dessert focused.
  • You’re dining with a crowd. The seating inside the dining room is small and unable to accommodate larger parties. If you’re eating here, try to limit your party to a maximum of 4 for the best experience, otherwise you may be split up.
  • Flavor is your middle name. Looking for a dish that will send your taste buds on a wild ride? Yeah, probably won’t find that here, but Disney World offers hundreds of restaurants where we feel you’d like something better elsewhere.
